That said, I don't remember many voices which expressed a hope that a conciliation could happen between the parties who have finally made this agreement.I think that's probably because (in the midst of the various heated debates) no one ever thought of that as ever being an option. I think the fans (no matter which side they took, or even if they remained neutral) all pretty much believed the only result would be an everything-or-nothing solution that came out of a court-imposed order, with one side glorified and the other side buried in the dust. It's been a hard, bitter struggle for everyone involved, and the fact that it ended on a note of diplomacy and dignity is a surprising (and welcome) turn of events. As for posts bringing up prior problems as to what was (or was not) done during the various court battles...none of that can be reversed; all those debates have been done to death elsewhere and accomplished nothing. No need to live in a past you cannot change. Not saying you have to like how things went down; just saying that to dredge it all up again is like flooring the accelerator when the car is in neutral...it won't get you anywhere. (And did Ted really use the word "poopy" in public? Bold rascal! No Ann Coulter action figure from the Easter Bunny for you!)

I second the nomination of Teds "Post of the Year"! So wonderfully put, funny as hell, and although I could figure out what it meant, I actually
learned a new word (Osculation)!
!! Who says you can't learn anything
here?!!?
Oh, yes, congrats to Phil, Ray and Connie- may all future endeavors be satisfying to all. I'm looking forward to the new mags (with no bag of rocks to throw at anyone). Scott |

Another word in defense of the CHFB and its powers-that-be. There are indeed sites on the web where you can go for your dose of "Ferry is God, and Forry Satan/Forry is God, and Ferry Satan." But a fair reading of the material here shows that this place is neither. It HAS been balanced, and allowed partisans of both sects to speak; it HAS been where you could actually hear from Principals, not just sycophants. And David is not some blogger who fancies himself a journalist; he's The Real Thing, in word and deed. -Craig W. |

I think it's nice that this threesome has gotten all their wrinkles ironed out and are now at peace. That's a good thing. I'm still personally not
very interested in any new incarnation of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, but I sure am more receptive to the idea than I was when it was all-out war.
And the moderators of this forum? In my experience they're exceptionally patient and tolerant, way more than on other message boards. Over the years I've made David's job here more tough than I'd like, and I'm sure I've driven him near madness at times ... but in the end we've always managed to work things out. There is a lot of leeway allowed here, but of course you have to be careful not to abuse it to the point where you hang yourself with the rope.

Exactly. Regarding the Fandom War to End All Wars, alllllllll the same things have been said here over and over, on both sides, 60,000 times. You wanna say it another 60,000 times? Start your own site and have at it. We're movin' on. |

Oh, boy oh boy, what a great evening-- dinner with a treasured & sexy friend (she cooked), great conversation, a movie (Martian Child; we both know David
Gerrold, her better than me)... then I come home to check my private yuku messages and get the following, with the header 'GOOD EVENING YOU POMPOUS
ASSH***'
------------------------------------- From: [screen name deleted, but I betcha y'all can figger it out] To:Ted Newsom Sent:April 11, 2009, 8:06 pm You & the rest of your brown-nosed gang can just kiss my *** You really think your big cheese, don't you? I read your bio & I never heard of you. You sure as hell ain't no Spielberg or Lucas. You seem more of a John Landis kinda guy. All bull**** with no one to love 'cept yourself. You just come off as yet another arrogant p**** on this chat room that's supposed to be for fans, not cinematic snobs like you & your cronies. It would seem that this chat room's as one-sided as any I'll find, seeing that you & your fellow ****-lickers think that you dictate the topic. Whatta a small-minded p**** you are. So you knew Ackerman, huh? Did he also know what an a****** you are? Were you one of those leeches who only used him for what you could get? To quote a better movie that you'll ever write, produce, or direct, "I hope you suck d****s in hell", you pompous bastard. I hope you & Ferry get rear-ended real soon. So, being the pompous bastard I am, what could I do? I replied. Funny-- I never heard of you, either. Yes, I knew Forry. Well enough, I'd say, that he made sure my name was read at his service, with about 20 others. Considering there were more than 700 people attending, and that he probably met 20,000 or 40,000 people in his life and affected several million, being singled out like that was an unexpected honor. I was floored. And unlike a lot of people, I never asked for shttt from Forry, ever. I put him in two little movies I made, we'd talk occasionally. I was not part of the general coterie of fans around him. I just treated him like a fellow adult, he just happened to be the first adult in my life who encouraged me to write, and I told him that, when I saw him last, a week before he died. You don't know the people involved; I do. You can harbor all the grudges you want if it makes you happy, and damn anybody you want. Have fun. Maybe you'd be happier over at horrordrunx.com. They seem to appreciate foul-mouthed vitriol more than the stodgy old fans at CHFB. PS: I'm posting this on CHFB so everyone can see what a lovable, clear-headed and magnanimous fella you are. --- PS.-- I am pretty sure Forry knew what kind of an a****** I was. I knew what kind of guy he was, too. And Mr. Anonymous did not use any f****** asterisks.

Thanks for posting that e-mail, Ted, as it surely shows what kind of behind-the-scenes vitriol was (and still is) being directed at people in this FM affair.
Now folks may be more inclined to believe the hateful attacks and even death threats that some people received privately during the Forry-Ferry battles. I
think this type of person represents a very small minority, and that their strength of their vitriol is in indirect proportion to their actual power. They
can, however, try to cause people bother and probably live for those opportunities. It'd be best if they grew up and joined the rest of the adults who
have moved on in the FM saga.
Great response, btw. Mirek |

Sad indeed, Ted; and well-played, Sir.
ANY vitriol and flame EVER expended over a topic like this is damned childish. If you take the Fun out of this passtime, you render it Nothing. Debate, yes; with honesty, yes. With piss & vinegar? No. That's for the pattycake set. |
