Just like Spanky should be played by Spanky, and Alfalfa, Alfalfa. Stan Laurel plays Stanley, Babe Hardy plays Ollie. Chaplin plays the tramp, Peter Sellers plays Clouseau. Simple. Jim Carrey gets to play half the name parts in Dumb & Dumber. And he gets to play Ace Ventura.

Carrey already looks like Dick York, so Duke York wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Actually Carrey's too much of a "stretch" for Curly! So who's gonna play Shemp? Joachin Phoenix? Chico played a very broad Italian character and Harpo played (for laughs) someone who couldn't talk! Maybe I don't believe in the P. C. Police the same way others do, but that could cause a problem. If so, it would be a lucky one in this case!

Apr 2 09 12:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm not even that much of a Stooges fan, but I cannot bring up any mental combination of the image of Jim Carrey and the sound "Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk" that doesn't induce a nightmarish gag reflex. I think sometimes we get too up in arms about Hollywood's latest remake, update, whatever. I am often willing to give them at least a chance. But that being said, not EVERYTHING should get to the point of being produced, either. This really sounds like a colossally malformed idea that should've gone straight to the circular file.

Some remakes have potential to be decent, they've just been pretty consistently botched by some filmmaking trends that are across-the-board infectious and odious. I'm more irritated with the production suits who green-light anything with a vaguely notable title because they think it will get a few more butts in seats. Sadly, it seems to! This Stooges thing just seems to be a whole new level of stink though.

A DAY AT THE MOVIES...even if the script is good, it's still not going to be the Marx Brothers. Given how much ad-libbing the boys did (plus the years of interacting with each other), there's just a certain chemistry and magic you can't fake or imitate. That being said, however, I think it sounds more in keeping with the spirit of the originals than the Farrelly Stooges project. (Especially since the Marx Brothers were more feature-film oriented than the Stooges were.) Slightly off-topic, I wonder why we really don't have comedy teams in this day and age. Something I've always wanted to see was a project that would team up Bob Newhart and Don Rickles. Whenever the two real-life buddies and their wives would go on vacation, they would usually end up on Johnny Carson after the trip to relate their misadventures. (Would love to see those two do THE ODD COUPLE.)

I am a little amazed that Penn whos a bona fide A list movie actor, and a tremendous talent as well , would think that this could possibly be a good career move.
