I never really got into them until last winter when I bought a bunch of Tim McCoy and Buck Jones titles during a VCI sale. It may take me a year or longer to watch the 20 Billy the Kids in this set, but when I get to Wild Horse Phantom I'll watch it with extra interest! Thanks! And, boy was my math off above! The titles included in the Billy the Kid set only cost twenty-five cents a title---not forty! Oooops!

Apr 11 09 8:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Cap -- Just responded to your last note about B-westerns but got so carried away I decided to send it to your e-mail instead of taking up space with an off-trail topic here. Except to note publicly that the PRC westerns are, generally speaking, a long way from the best of the B-westerns. If you can find a copy of the late Don Miller's excellent (and first) book on the subject, HOLLYWOOD CORRAL, it provides an expert's point of view and some useful critiques. It was originally published as an oversized (Big Apple, I think) paperback, but the vastly expanded, totally revamped and re-stillustrated hardback edition (put together by Don's friends and fellow B-western enthusiasts as a posthumous tribute) is even better. Both are out of print but well worth tracking down.

Did not see the Kong sets either and they only had maybe a half dozen of the double sets left. Apr 11 09 12:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I picked up the Billy the Kid Mill Creek set at WalMart this evening. Twenty films on four discs. Three or four star Bob Steele and the rest star Buster Crabbe. I haven't watched any of them yet, but I did throw all four discs into the dvd player and look at a couple of seconds from each title. They all seemed to be decent watchable prints fo the movies. The quality was about what we would have been watching on late night UHF channels in the 70's Sounds like their similar package of John Wayne's Lone Star westerns from a couple of years back, which also included McCLINTOCK. (Not sure how that film ended up on so many PD labels.) May have to make a Walmart run for that Billy the Kid set!

I did, however, pick up four; Barry Lyndon, Behold a Pale Horse, Day for Night and A Man For All Seasons. If there is a Big Lots in your area you may want to check it out.

Apr 13 09 9:18 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Checked out a different Big Lots yesterday -- still no luck with the KONG twofer, dangit, but I did score: THE GAY DIVORCEE THE BARKLEYS OF BROADWAY PRESENTING LILY MARS (Judy Garland and Van Heflin) DANCE, GIRL, DANCE (Maureen O'Hara and Lucille Ball and a great supporting cast) Stan Lee's MUTANTS, MONSTERS & MARVELS (this one's been around for a while, been on a comics kick lately) From the previously viewed $6 pile: CLOVERFIELD, which I'm just now getting around to watching. Still a bunch of interesting titles I'd like to pick up eventually but I was feeling overextended. Can't even keep up with all the stuff I've been recording from our satellite service lately... One $3 DVD I've been seeing at B.L.s regularly that I highly recommend: THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD with two of my favorite contemporary actors, Renee Zellweger and Vincent D'Onofrio. It's the sad, true story of the friendship of legendary pulp fictioneer Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan stories and many other wild & wooly yarns) and young schoolteacher Novalyne Price in Depression-era Texas. After Howard's tragic suicide in 1936, Price went on to a long, distinguished career in academics; in 1986 she wrote a memoir, ONE WHO WALKS ALONE, that's the basis for the movie. I LOVE this film and think both of the leads are brilliant in it. Without any visual recreations of his pulp characters to support him, D'Onofrio's passionate performance brings Conan's savage world to life more convincingly than any thud-and-blunder movie I've seen. I think this would be a great date movie -- a tearjerking unrequited love story with much more for the guys than usual.

Struck out at the first one, but since I had to kill time waiting for my daughter visit her doctor I visited the other one and hit the mother load! They had a truckload of the aforementioned dvds. Picked up: Flying Down to Rio The Gay Divorcee Roberta The Barkley's of Broadway There Was a Crooked Man Eating Raoul The Revenge of Frankenstein The Return of the Vampire Mutiny on the Bounty (Gable) The Champ Teenage Cavemen (remake) King's Row Presenting Lily Mars (Judy Garland) Oh God Oh God, You Devil Going In Style The Sunshine Boys Beyond the Poseidon Adventure I left poorer, but happier. It is always hit and miss at every Big Lots. There are a few titles you've spotted in VA (in an earlier post) that have yet to show up down here in FL. May 10 09 3:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Shopped at the Uniontown PA Big Lots yesterday -- still no KONG vs. GODZILLA/ KONG ESCAPES twofer (guess I just missed that one), but I did stumble onto a big batch of the new (and very well done, IMO) colorized stuff from Legend Films. Bought 7, 6 of them colorized Legends: * PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE * GIANT GILA MONSTER / KILLER SHREWS double-feature * THREE STOOGES: GREATEST ROUTINES * THREE STOOGES: LIVE AND HILARIOUS * SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON (Rathbone and Bruce with Lionel Atwill as Moriarty) * MY MAN GODFREY (William Powell and Carole Lombard screwball comedy) The last one was DIRTY HARRY! All the Legends have GREAT extras. I just checked the Legend Films website (http://www.legendfilms.net/) and they have a lot more related titles in their current catalog (like Ed Wood's BRIDE OF THE MONSTER and Lugosi's DEVIL BAT, a number of other STOOGE titles, LITTLE RASCALS, etc.) and an aggressive schedule of more to come. I hope lots more of their titles will be showing up at Big Lots, I'd sure love to have them for $3 apiece.
