Maybe UNIVERSAL could release more Horror like ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, William Castle's THE NIGHT WALKER or THE BOY WHO CRIED WEREWOLF? Here's hoping. According to this old thread, Buena Vista owns ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS and NOT OF THIS EARTH. They reportedly submitted CRAB MONSTERS to the Ontario Censor Board way back in 2006.

Mar 22 09 2:53 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	A few more things I'd like to point out after going over the FAQ at the WBShop.com website.... The don't ship to P.O. Boxes and don't take phone orders. Also, they don't take DEBIT cards, only credit cards. You can only purchase the DVDs on their website. Frankly (based on past experience with their BEST BUY Exclusives), I wouldn't be surprised to see these DVDs show up at Amazon or elsewhere in a few months or a year.

For those of us not in the US, it's another jump-through-hoops exercise of trying to find a friend who is willing to troop off to the Post Office to fill in some forms. Potentially every month or so. Lovely, all the "fun" of the Universal/Warner/Legend 'Best Buy Exclusive' fiascos, only at an even higher price.

At this price point I won't be buying tons of impulse stuff, but really wanted ones I'll go for. Just aren't that many for me among this initial offering. I've already alerted my film collector friends, hopefully this will take off and grow. And maybe, just maybe, they'll find they can make a buck and lower the prices a bit. SAM33

Mar 22 09 9:58 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Robert Harris just posted this at the HTF: I've seen a number of these titles, and the quality is fine. Each master was vetted, many by Mr. Feltenstein himself. All are proper aspect ratio, and stereo where applicable. Any titles that did not make spec were eliminated until newer transfers become available. In this regard the list has been changing over the past few months as test discs were created. This is a HUGE effort which has been in the works for a long time, and is the only viable means of offering films to the public via DVD in short runs. Films such as the silents, early Garbo / Gable MGM efforts would have otherwise remained in the vaults. The discs themselves are burned, not pressed. None that I've seen have had any problems, and press vs. burn should not be a controversy. So, it looks like these are just DVD-Rs then. With all due respect to Mr. Harris, these are subject to problems. They may play fine when they're new, but the fact is burned discs are a highly unstable medium; the chances of them corrupting and becoming unplayable down the line are very high. To expect people to fork out top dollar for inferior product like that is pretty outrageous IMO. http://livius1.wordpress.com/

You've got a major studio opening it's vaults to offer some films that otherwise would not be available and the kvetching has already begun...from the folks who ask if it's available on Neflix..(get those DVD burners ready) to some who are complaining about the medium of delivery (DVD-R vs. pressed DVDs), to those who are already complaining about the cost. You've got folks on this board who bemoan the lack of deep catalog, a studio makes an attempt to offer what the fans want and the same fans are complaining...NO WONDER THAT THE MAJORS ARE NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES AND PUTTING OUT THE SAME TITLES OVER AND OVER.

So if it works that's $15.00 a pop--not bad. If these do well, I'm thinking, yes, we may see things like FRANKENSTEIN 70 and NOT OF THIS EARTH in future release batches. I know some folks have an issue with the price, but look to the future a bit. In a couple years, if these go OOP, prices could be a lot higher, on eBay, Amazon Marketplace, etc., and you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't grab these. Amazing to see William Conrad's psycho-thriller MY BLOOD RUNS COLD being offered. First time on home video for that one. I'm tempted on that, CRESCENDO and CAPTAIN SINBAD. Also noticed THE GEORGE RAFT STORY w/Ray Danton, Jayne Mansfield (and Julie London) for sale too.

THERE ARE stability issues with DVD-R as stated above, I don't care what Harris says (I've been disagreeing with him more and more lately). Again, even if burned, I support this effort, but don't tell me they can't burn these and distribute at a cheaper price point and still turn a decent profit. Hell, I can buy best quality DVD-R blanks for a dime apiece in bulk. What must a studio have to pay? They can make masters, replicate them, pay for the cases, shipping, and printing for under 5 bucks material costs, I'm positive. Add in labor and we're still at 10 bucks apiece, easy. Now, is 5 bucks a disc good enough profit? There's no middle man that I can see, so I say yes. They should be no more than 15 bucks tops. And that's with no "secret code" crap. So no, I won't be accused of "complaining" in some pointless manner - I've been a major purchaser of these guys products for years. If they want too much, just like they currently do with Blu-rays, I won't be buying many (just like with Blu-rays). That's how the free market works. The economy will just have to work itself out. If WB were putting this stuff out on proper DVDs then I might be more enthusiastic.
