Interesting and upsetting to see WB continue to do this as the pressed discs (even though oop) can often be found at a cheaper price upon the initial DVD-R releases.

Around the same time period due to the BF sale, I placed orders for about 40 archive titles all together. I've checked half of those and the rest are still in the shrinkwrap. I just opened up Daktari yesterday to watch it and lo and behold, the first two discs come up as blanks on both drives that I have previously watched all my archive TV sets on. I called up WB customer service just now, and was told "um, yeah....don't think there's anything we can do because it's outside of 30 days." In general I would understand about a 30 day window- but the archive is not a general retail middle man. They represent the disc manufacturer. Also, as many non fans of the program are quick to point out, we are paying a premium for something that is made from materials that are technically of inferior quality to mass produced versions. In the past I've never had a problem with WB customer service. The first two years of the program I'd gotten several bum discs and they were always replaced quickly, efficiently, and I never them another thought. However, this changes everything. If I can't get a replacement for a $40 set because I opened it 4 months after I got it, what happens if/when the media in your collection starts to deteriorate 8 months to a couple years down the line? Are you SOL because the media that was originally used may have been compromised to begin with? I was dropping a ton of money with these guys under the (what appears now to be false) assumption that despite the cheaper DVD-r nature of the media, the program would at least allow them to efficiently stand behind them for the lifetime of the format. If this isn't the case- if they are just going to take our money and say we are on our own after a 30 day window- my purchases are not only going to plummet with them, they are going to push me to the side of the 'anti DVD-r' crowd. This isn't just about me. Anybody that has been building a collection of these should be concerned about just how long they will stand behind the quality of their product. Even at $10 a pop on sale, (and around $30 for the TV sets) I don't think that's a lot to ask given the nature of how these things are manufactured.

WAs own policy states they will replace faulty discs no matter when you discover the problem. It is under their FAQ section.
