British television legend Wendy Richard died today aged 65, following a lengthy battle against cancer. She had been seen most recently as Mrs. Crump in last
year's Marple: A Pocket Full of Rye starring Julia McKenzie.
Best known for playing Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served? and Pauline Fowler in soap EastEnders for twenty-one years (including a cameo by the character in the Doctor Who pastiche Dimensions in Time), Wendy Richard also made numerous appearances in 1960s police, detective, and action series such as Danger Man, No Hiding Place, and Dixon of Dock Green, as well as popping up in various 1970s comedy shows including Dad's Army and Up Pompeii. She also had rĂ´les in some of the latter Carry On movies.
