Does the Library of Congress have everything in its must-be-massive storage facility, would a paper of LAM be in there? Just got the box set on Friday and spent some time with it on Saturday night. Very fabulous, especially the obvious delight Melies has for his new magic show technique. I'll have to pace myself so as not to overdo a good thing, hard to do when a lot of the films are barely over a minute long. And doesn't his son look astoundingly like M cloned himself? Neat!

May 30 11 2:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	LoC stopped making paper prints around 1912, when motion pictures became copyrighted by themselves. So no, you're not going to find any paper prints of LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT out there. In the early '50s, LoC started a program to photograph these paper prints to 16mm. The quality was very rough. Recently, however, they've constructed a scanner that is scanning paper prints into digital form and when well done, they look excellent. J. Theakston Capitol Theatre, Rome, NY

I doubt anyone even ever unspooled the odd things! Paper had the benefit that unlike silver nitrate, the storage medium was fairly worthless on its own and not worth the hassle of recycling.
