It will apparantly contain 100 films and has been produced with the assistance of the Méliès family. (The front cover lists a few titles : Le Voyage Dans La Lune, Une Partie De Cartes, Le Livre Magique, Le Voyage De Gulliver, Le Diable Noir, and one site also lists Le Merveilleux Éventail Vivant). Listed extras include a documentary, a booklet and 'Recréation de boniments' (recreation of stories ?). No details of language options. Nov 14 06 12:53 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If by "English titles" you mean title cards, they usually aren't an issue with Melies; other than the opening title of the movie, he didn't use any. However, some of his movies were designed to be watched while a narrator explained the action, and if that is retained, I'm hoping that there might be dubbing in English. However, I'm not real hopeful on this. I ordered mine last week, so I'm hoping it arrives pretty soon. None of the sites that offer it list the full contents, so what's on it is a bit of a mystery. There are several Melies movies on my hunt list that I"m hoping will be included. ***************** "A maniac with a lot of knowledge is a threat!"

Aw poopy, ya gotta do better than that. What rumors? Where? I was all set to have that be my "Oh goodie, goodie!" X-mas gift, but not if it's coming out here in 07. I mean there's a chance any Euro-DVD master will get a state-side release, but it takes a interested party to make that happen. Kino? Milestone? Criterion? Flicker Alley? Image? Facets? Those seem to be the only labels that would touch such a project.

After finally getting my hands on a DVD of the L of C restored ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, I read that it will be reissued stateside in Feb. 2007. Grrr....

Yes, but this time I haven't made the purchase yet. It just seems that the rumor-mill always moves from someone saying "It sounds like a title Kino would release" to "I've heard a US release is planned" with nothing but conjecture to back it up. This set isn't cheap, and we don't know if any extras will have some sort of English language option. I'd pay the price just to get 100 Melies films, but since most average anywhere from 2-6 minutes, there will be a ton of other content in this set. If it's all French only it makes sense to wait, but if a US set is a dream I want this. It's the same dilema of the French Dreyer box with the "restored" Vampyr DVD. Sometimes the European DVDs (of silents in particular) look better than ours, so it's not always a bad thing to have bought them first.

My info came from a recent post on the alt.movies.silent usenet group, which declared: "You'll have to hold your breath for a while, but highly placed rumor mill sources indicate a R1 set will be in the works before too long!" Admittedly, it's not much to go on. But if it turns out to be true, I can always say, "We told you so!" :-D

I hope your right, I think I can wait a few months, but if it's not on any real entities roster, I'm nabbing the French set before it goes OOP. Let us not forget that Image strung us along with the proposed "The Supernatural Films of George Melies" for over a year then just dumped it with no explanation. I wrote them and all they would say is "that they no longer intend on releasing it" Now, I'm sure all the Blackhawk collection of these many titles still exists, and David Sheppard is still turning out 16mm prints of many not on DVD, so I can't imagine that Image based their cancelation on anything but low sales expectations.

On that date the Amazon.fr page listed availability as 6 to 10 days. Today I notice its slipped to 4 to 6 weeks :(
