I can't wait for THE THIRD MAN on BD. It should be a treat.

Delays, delays.
Well, my "THE TERROR (1963) -don't hold your breath" was justified, it has now been bumped to October 28th. In other news, though there is no shortage of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET due on Sept. 2 reports on many Blu-ray sights, but there is a definite shortage of it on any on-line video-dealer's release schedule, so I am plucking it from mine. It would seem very unlikely that it wouldn't be up for pre-order this close to the proposed date, and especially from a company like Warner. |

The Digital Bits is reporting that the GHOSTBUSTERS films and DR. STRANGELOVE have been pushed back to 2009.

This is getting reminiscent of Ye Olde days of DVDs. Fortunately for me so far my first-choices are still on track.

3-D comes to BD

While I think this is a pretty bad movie, I'm glad this is happening - perhaps if it sells well, along with the current 3D "boomlet", we'll
eventually see some classics in 3D as well.

I'm gonna get it, though I'd rather have a live-action film. It's the lesser of 3-D evils in HD so far. I just couldn't bring myself to buy
"Hanna Montana" in 3-D. MONSTER HOUSE, NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, or even that NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remake woulda been more welcome (obviously
excluding classic stuff).
I'll bet ya the Disney/Hanna Montana disk sold well, and that's why were seeing this, lets hope more follow. |

"Well I'm probably going to get the new Sony 350 stand alone player - same upgradeability as the Playstation and normal remote, small size, fast load time, etc. Same price (actually I expect to get it a bit cheaper). I'm just not a gamer. Early reviews are good. " I have that system and love it so far, no problems (yet)

Me too King - I can recommend it. One friend got it on some special deal for around $325.00!

Some place sent me an email of $318.00, so it's out there at a reasonable price.

Criterion has announced a proposed $20 trade-in/exchange program for DVD-to-blu-ray upgrades. In exchange for you DVDs (disks only) and $20 they will provide a
blu-ray replacement as applicable titles emerge.

Well that's an interesting idea - I still think it ought to be a bit less, but it's a start. Sony, are you listening?

The Beaver has a some great screen-caps up for the new NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Blu-ray, which represents a substantial improvement over the domestic
(non-anamorphic) DVD. It's of course much-more detailed and sharper, but also displays better framing and color fidelity.
I was a little bummed they didn't remaster "VINCENT" in HD, so we get the 408p transfer from the DVD. The most intriguing is a new piece that combines Christoper Lee's narration and new art, which seems to be only partly animated, but even outside of the Beaver review, this new short is getting a lot of acclaim. Sounds like one of the more essential upgrades to me as it improves on a troubled mastering, and features all the old extras and new ones featuring Mr. Lee. have a look-see http://www.dvdbeaver.com/...ore_christmas_blu-ray.htm |

dhtreptow wrote: Right. At $25 all told, you're what, saving less than $3 off what you'd pay at Amazon or Deep Discount (less than $7 if you purchased from their own store)? What is Criterion planning to do with the returned discs (sans packaging/artwork)? Seems like a better idea to donate them to your local library or to pass the discs on to someone who may appreciate them. If you're looking to turn them into funds, why wouldn't you sell on ebay since you're going through the trouble of shipping them anyway? More than $3 in that. How about trading them in to a local used media outlet? They'd probably give $7-$8 at least for a Criterion in good shape. |

Disney has announced that by 2010 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Pinocchio, and Beauty and the Beast will all be getting the Blu-ray
"Platinum Series" treatment. At least the "big three" are in the works.
