I presume footage has been cut, but the revenge killings or imprisonment make the victims Mary Duncan (insane) and her sister (the sorority sister May - dead), Peg Entwistle (imprisoned for murder), and Kay Thompson (suicide on the train). Florence Eldridge, Jill Esmond and Irene Dunne (through her son) are intended victims but I believe all three live. If anything happens to Eldridge, who "welcomes" death, or Esmond, I missed it. Swami Yogadachi doesn't count, so that leaves four victims, and I'm not sure Mary Duncan was a sorority sister - they only mention May - the trapeze partner she drops. The title then - as far as Loy's batting average goes - should be THREE WOMEN (or four, or five). Any others are off screen and not mentioned that I caught.

Because it seems like an idea that could be used plenty of times. The one a lot of people here can think of is Five Desperate Women. And even though it isn't a suspense film, The Group is a very strange one.

I sure hope I did it correctly. I think it ended up costing about $24 in US currency including postage so that's not bad. I have a couple of DVD players that will play PAL but I'll rip it and burn a NTSC disc as well. Thanks for the heads up on this. Now, can you find me "London After Midnight" and "Hats Off"?

The case says it's 73 minutes long but it is the same 59 minute print shown on TCM. Were you basing your info on what it said on the case?

I had to double check to make sure it was the same film discussed in this thread as my on-screen programming guide doesn't make it sound like horror/suspense at all. I have always read that "Blood Feast" was the first true slasher film and probably more relevant because it was in color where as "Dementia 13" was b/w. Eric

Apr 10 09 5:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think it deals with the amount of blood and gore - heavy on gore. I may be wrong but up to "Blood Feast" you didn't see limbs, brains, tongues being ripped out, etc... especially in blood red color. It was either suggested, seen after the fact, or in b/w so the blood wouldn't gross someone out. Remember, people were sheltered concerning "shock" movies back in 1963. Jumping out of a closet and shouting BOO would have made some pee their pants back then! A different time and era. "Blood Feast" was the grandaddy of slashers. I think too many are trying to associate any knife cutting movie as a slasher. I believe the term goes beyond that as described above. I have read that when this was shown in drive-in's that teens were seen getting out of their cars to vomit because of the gore. Again, a different time and era. I never heard of it and thought it was better than average, but also thought there was a potential classic in the story that the filmmakers missed. I later looked it up on the IMDb. What's with those user reviews? One clown describes a very exciting climax involving Myrna Loy chasing Irene Dunne with a knife on a train. But it's not in the movie at all.
