I just rewatched the quite fun Lifeboat film and was wondering - do you think that Willi the German was a psycho killer? Or acting in the best interest of the
other survivors? Here are the points of conflict:
1) The first woman to die off the boat disappears in the middle of the night. The first time I saw this, I thought that she killed herself, because why would Willi want to kill her? Sure, she blamed him for the death of her child, but it really wasn't of benefit to him to kill her... unless he was already a killer.
2) When asked about Gus' leg, the nurse isn't quite sure about the diagnosis, but the captain is sure and performs the operation to remove the allegedly gangrenous leg. It could have been infected - or Willi could have seen it as a way to weaken & eventually kill another on the boat - or he could have just been a sicko who saw a chance to inflict pain and took it.
3) Finally pushing Gus overboard - was it an act of mercy, or did he just enjoy killing Gus?
Does anybody know what Hitch intended with the film?
