Dec 24 08 9:21 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Reprising a lost poll. Maybe you want to vote on this, maybe not. Maybe it's pointless, but we're slow at work, and I'm bored. So HERE GOES! Of these two iconic titans of Classic Horror, the two that started it all, which of the two would you pick as the greatest, most influential? Whether it's your personal favorite or not. Dec 26 08 9:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, seems like most people are voting for FRANKENSTEIN just because it's the better film (and I agree there). But DRACULA was more influential. It influenced FRANKENSTEIN, for starters!

Dec 27 08 3:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It was the success of DRACULA that gave Universal the gumption to keep pushing the envelope, so to speak, with FRANKENSTEIN..so I will go with the former. Without the first major release, many other classics may not have followed.

However, of the all the choices not included, everybody knows that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the greatest and most influential film ever made because it changed what film makers expected of themselves and what audiences expected from films. Whale's film is not only greater than Dracula, but certainly more influential. Every mad doctor laboratory for decades after owed a debt of gratitude to that film. Still, when all is said and done -- my vote goes to KING KONG Cromwell

Sep 12 09 9:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tough choice, but I went with Dracula for the following reasons: a.) It was the first horror film of the sound era. b.) It introduced most of the gothic elements that would quickly become staples. c.) It's horror was supernatural. d.) Lugosi's look and voice as the title character became the iconic image of the Count, and still exerts a strong influence even today. e.) It's success led to Universal deciding to make another gothic tale, Frankenstein. Dracula is ground zero for the classic horror films of the 30's.

Surely the latter must've been in production already at the time of the former's release? Does anyone know the dates of release for each film? I voted for Frankenstein, by the way.
