Dec 12 08 6:54 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The design and animation initially turned me off too. But then I caught the Plastic Man episode a few weeks back -- and laughed myself silly. It was really entertaining! Even though the art style looks kind of "Nickelodeon/Fairly Oddparents" modern, the show I saw had that jazzy, Venture Brothers vibe to it. I liked the casting of several 'comic' actors in fairly straight roles -- Dietrich Bader does a great 'Kevin Conroy', and Tom (Spongebob) Kenny was the perfect Eel O'Brien (Plas). Thanx for reminding me to check it out again tonight!

Dec 12 08 9:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	While checking on a relative's house I took time to look over their cable lineup (and fridge contents) and came across a promo for the show, which was on next. I wasn't sure what to think of it, but I decided to give it a watch, and it turned out to be the Plastic Man episode. It grew on me and I remember thinking I'd have to pick it up when it came out on DVD. And you're right, Hal, Bader does a great Conroy. I have only caught a couple of episodes so far (Plastic Man & Aqua Man), but what I have seen has impressed me (and my seven year-old son) quite a bit. I think its a nice bridge between the goofier "Super Friends" cartoons of the 70's, and the grimmer, more serious toned Bruce Timm "Batman Adventures" of the late 80's and 90's. Bryan

A little more light-hearted than all the uber-heavy Batman of the past 20+, yet still respectful of the character and not total cheeseball like the Superfriends. Kind of a Silver Age feel to it, while still maintaining some of the edge of the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm stuff. I"m liking the show, but can't say I'm loving it. In the episode "Day of the Dark Knight!", did anyone notice the slew of villains from the original Batman TV show? I saw King Tut, the Bookworm, the Siren, Ma Barker, the Archer and Black Widow. DOCTOR 13

Somebody did their research -- and they even managed to squeeze in a quick Doctor(s) Who reference!

I was happy to see that Ditko's costume design was retained. When DC revived the character in '86, they modified the costume. There was even a brief (blink and you'll miss it) appearance of the Dan Garrett Blue Beetle in the episode. Not very interested in the current Guyver inspired version that DC is doing now. For me, this show is hit or miss - some are well done (Plastic Man) while others just seem kind of dopey (Red Tornado)...

Jan 31 09 8:29 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Another winner last night, with Aquaman and The Atom! Witty script, beautiful voice work, and wonderful timing on the visuals. I'm amazed that they can fit so much into a half hour episode, and have it hold together. I think the minimal exposition works in its favor, never underestimating the audience or talking down to them, which kind of counterpoints the simplified visuals. The pre-credits team-up this time was with Plas and Elongated Man -- fun stuff. And the villain of the main piece had me rolling in the aisle! In addition to the great, jazzy music, the sound effects are top notch too. Listen as the big green monster wading in the harbor shoots his flame-like breath at the battleships . All in all a superlative effort -- I've watched this one twice already!

I believe in the DCU, Ray Palmer disappeared into a self-imposed exile after he found out his ex-wife Jean Loring was responsible for the events of the Identity Crisis miniseries. It's pretty good, I'd recommend it. Palmer is still around, but he's passed the mantle of The Atom on to a new guy; (From Wikipedia) "His legacy lives on, however, with Ryan Choi finding a copy of his costume and shrinking device to become the current Atom."
