What movies do you play on Thanksgiving ? |

Went to the video store yesterday and was shocked to see meal-oriented movies like "Frenzy," "Eating Raul," "Discreet Charm of the
Bourgeoise" and "Sweeny Todd" (Todd Slaughter) were still available. What are things coming to when the classics are ignored?!

Today I watched THE MAN FROM PLANET X. As appropriate as any other title I can think of for today.
My whole life I've been playing jacks with a square ball.

I rarely watch movies on Thanksgiving. We usually have big family gatherings, so movie viewing is impossible. Plus most of the people want the football games
on. I married into a family of gamblers so many of the people are involved in football pools. After dinner the evenings are taken over by playing cards. Now
that I am home I am thinking of putting on KING KONG while I sit here unwinding, then at bedtime I will either fall asleep to the 007 marathon on Sci-Fi right
now or I will put on a Christmas flick (SCROOGED, CHRISTMAS VACATION or A CHRISTMAS STORY.

Sadly, after the huge meal, I flopped onto the couch, not realizing the remote was out of reach. There I was, like Gamera on his back, forced to watch USA
network and all the episodes in their "House" marathon... Luckily, I did catch up on several episodes that I hadn't seen before... I just wish
USA had been a bit more careful, and played the shows in some kind of original broadcast order.

Before kids I used to like to watch HOLIDAY INN w/ Crosby and Astaire. It's pretty warm and fuzzy, and as always, Bing's voice is like a warm bath.
HOWEVER- since I have 2 kids (6&10) we watched too damn much Spongebob and Drake and Josh in the background while eating. I snuck out to my studio and read
a little, but wasnt in a movie mood...

I always try to watch THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD on or around Thanksgiving. It used to be shown locally either the week before or the week after Thanksgiving
when I was a kid, so I associate the movie with turkey day.

If we do watch TV in the evenings, it's usually the time when we bring out the Christmas movies - Nat'l Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, A Christmas
Story, & (especially) Planes Trains & Automobiles, which actually takes place during the holiday.

I cook too, but generally try to have something festive music or movie-wise in the background. So it was the Macy's parade- pure cheese, but comforting
that its still there. Then dinner/friends/drinks. Then later it was Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, follwed by Peter Jackson's King
Kong.

Since we rarely have Thanksgiving at home, I don't play anything. However, this Thanksgiving at my cousin's we watched a DVD of "The Dark
Knight."
