The car was loaded with people, but I was scared anyhow. Making it worse, was some guy in the car next to us must have been on a bad trip..during the "garden trowel" scene, he started screaming at the top of his lungs and thrashing around in the car, and he totally flipped out. That didn't help my mood that night, on top of the movie knocking seven shades out of me..

The buzz was that the drive in was going to be closing, and the owners had the last of their "1950's blowout" nights. It was co-sponsored by several car clubs, including a local hearse club, hot rod club, and VW club... there were some beautiful vehicles on the lot that night! The triple feature couldn't have been better, either... "Invasion of the Saucermen", "Earth Vs. Flying Saucers" and "I was a Teenage Frankenstien." I miss that place.

The cars back in the day were suited for the drive-in. They were roomy, most did not have some sort of console separating the front seat. I drive a small Dodge Neon these days. Nice on gas but not a good car for the drive-in. A trip to the concession stand was always special too.

I do have vivid memories of seeing the Frank Langella DRACULA though so that probably counts as my first horror theater experience. The one Drive-In we used to frequent had a flea market every weekend during the day which was cool as I would score stacks of comic books there. Years ago it was turned into one of those huge 24 theater megaplexes. We still have one Drive-In left in Georgia which plays first run double features, but every once in a while they'll do monster film festivals. http://starlightdrivein.com/#/movies/

There is a drive-in about 45 min to an hour drive from where I am. The first movie is usually a new release but the second feature is a movie that was the new release one or more weeks before.
