Nov 18 08 11:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My favorite childhood memory was going to the drive in with my mom&dad.Mom would take fridays news with her&circle several movies&her&dad&sometimes me would decide which movies we saw.We saw all kinds of stuff.Aip classics with Vincent Price,Boris Karloff,John Wayne westerns and all else.When I turned 5 mom&dad took me to see Help,at the drive in and when I turned 6 I got to see the Batman movie...so you see how I turned out....

A couple of my earliest drive-in memories are seeing Brides of Dracula...The Manster...and a Steve Reeves double feature where they handed out a glossy pic of him at the box office. Teenagers From Outer Space is another. We went to see some movie called Mutiny on the Bounty around '62. I figured this was gonna be some boring thing my mom wanted to see, and then this actor named Marlon Brando appeared on the screen. I knew immediately this guy was something really good. There was something about him. I sat still staring at the screen for the next 2 1/2 hours loving every second of it. Brando became my favorite actor for life. Then in the 70s during my late teens and early 20s were a flood of fun drive-in memories. Flesh Gordon, Fritz the Cat, Legend of Hell House, a James Bond double feature in a snowstorm, Walking Tall, Superfly, Born Losers, Last Tango, lots of cold beers, pizza, popcorn, fogged up windows, and jazz cigarettes. I LOVED the drive-in!

Nov 20 08 9:29 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Never saw a lot at the drive-ins. I do vividly remember two trips in the 70's, though. One was my first view of SNOW WHITE (playing with ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD), and the other was for SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER.

Nov 22 08 1:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My wheelhouse for going to the outdoor theater was the mid and late 1970s. I must have seen 50 horror flicks between the Cicero Outdoor and the I-80 Outdoor. I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Phantasm, Happy Birthday To Me, Carrie, Prom Night... oh the list is endless. It was, without a doubt, the favorite place to go in the summer for myself and my girlfriend during those years. My wife and I STILL go to the outdoor at least three times each a year. We've got a place call the "Cascade Drive In" in West Chicago that is a fabulously good time. It has the old-style speakers that you hang on your window or put on the dashboard, they play all of the old outdoor movie theater ads (for Pic, the dancing hot dog and bun, etc.) that are considered classics, and there is an unbelievably cool broken down-looking concession stand with absolutely the worst/best food that you'll ever taste. My only regret is that they always show just recently released movies. Oh, how I wish they would take one night a month and put on some of those horror "classics" from the 70s and earlier.

Nov 26 08 12:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The last drive in movie I went to was with a group of friends to the "88" in Aurora, Colorado. The buzz was that the drive in was going to be closing, and the owners had the last of their "1950's blowout" nights. It was co-sponsored by several car clubs, including a local hearse club, hot rod club, and VW club... there were some beautiful vehicles on the lot that night! The triple feature couldn't have been better, either... "Invasion of the Saucermen", "Earth Vs. Flying Saucers" and "I was a Teenage Frankenstien." I miss that place.

Nov 26 08 7:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I so wish I could have gone to the drive-in when I was a kid. Almost every week there were triple feature monster movies playing. I did get to go maybe 4 times. One was a 4 pack of Hammer and other British horror. I used to pour over the movie ads every Friday. But no way to go. My dad and brothers sure wouldn`t take me.

The good movies always played inside! Years later I worked at a drive-in and had to sit through MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY seven times. I really do not have good memories.

Some of what my family and I saw was You Only Live Twice, El Dorado, Sons of Katie Elder, Planet of the Apes, The Velvet Vampire, Batman, The Dirty Dozen, etc. The list could go on and on......

You're with your teenage heartthrob, you don't have to pay TOO much attention to the movie, just watch the crazy parts, and there's plenty of time for other activities. My girlfriend would have her bottle of Madeira-Madeira and I'd have my six-pack of Old Style (these were the pre-Miller Lite days, by the way), we'd eat awful/tremendous stuff from the concession stand, and do whatever else we wanted to do in the privacy of the car. Bad horror movies were the perfect final ingredient. What's not to like about that?

Dec 16 08 7:04 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One of my biggest thrills as a kid was when my Dad took me to the old Ramona Drive-In in my home town, Hamilton, Ohio. The Ramona had a huge concrete screen and on the back was a giant painted mural of a Mexican dancing girl (Ramona, of course!) The triple bill that night was "The Spider". "The Fly", and "The Bat". The first two movies were awesome, but "The Bat" was a conventional murder mystery (by Agatha Christie, I believe) starring Vincent Price, and I got bored and sleepy and we left. I also remember seeing 'King Kong vs. Godzilla" at the drive-in and being amazed at the rattiest, most moth-eaten ape costume I had ever seen. When I was a freshman in college my buddies and I got a case of beer and went to see "Barbarella" at the drive-in -- THAT was one amazing night because I think the second feature was "Patton" with George C. Scott! Then I went with hometown friends to see "Alice's Restaurant" and "Midnight Cowboy". All in all, I loved the drive-in's -- especially the ones out in the Ohio countryside -- on warm summer nights with the crickets chirping and a soft breeze rustling the leaves -- and cars packed with whole families including little kids in their pajamas with their pillows and toys. All part of an bygone era that seems as if it happened a million years ago ....

Dec 23 08 12:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here in Ottawa, we had the Autosky, the Queensway, the Alladin, the Airport and the Brittannia. I spent probably one night a week in the summers at the Brittannia, between the ages of 16 and 22. Saw so many great films there. And so many funny occurrences... my favourite was probably the couple who were parked beside us for the sold out double feature of Phantom OF The Paradise and Rocky Horror. They smoked a bunch of dope as soon as they pulled in, then the guy went to the snack bar. While he was gone, his drug-addled girlfriend decided she didn't like the angle the car was on and tried to move it. Being so high, she forgot to remove the speaker. Bad idea. So the boyfriend comes back (we're KILLING ourselves laughing) to find her slumped over the wheel in abject depression. She breaks the news to him, there's about 3 minutes of sustained yelling/cursing (nice guy, they're probably married now) and then they went off in search of another spot. We could see their taillights going up and down the sold out rows... then the inevitable squeal of rubber as the angrily peeled away. No refunds were ever forthcoming from the Brittannia. They wouldn't even start Raiders Of The Lost Ark over again when the first 1/2 hour was blotted out by a microburst rainstorm! MacXoftheMounted.....................formerly known as Professor Von X

Jan 3 09 11:46 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My father was in the Navy and we where stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba the only movie theatre there was a drive in more like a drive up you parked the car and they had rows of canvas seats and bleachers in the back .I saw every Hammer Horror film there it is a very fond memeory of mine I also got my first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland at the base exchange .

What was unusual is that anybody driving down the road next to the drive-in had a clear view of the screen with no sound of couse. Still I wonder what those people and their kids thought driving down Old Centreville Road when they looked up and saw that womans tongue torn out of her head. A few years later I got my drivers license , discovered girls, and the drive-in took on a whole new meaning, but that's a whole other subject. CADMANDD

I posted on an earlier drive in thread and shared some old local drive in newspaper ads i have and i mentioned the same phenomenon. As you can see here,i can only wonder what families living near or travellers driving by the Black River Drive In thought looking over and seeing Dyanne Thorne bursting from her Nazi outfit while castrating a man! I also like how you had to call the theater to hear the title DRACULA SUCKS! Ahhh those naive and innocent days are long gone!

Ah, memories... Cromwell Haha yeah,people are always stunned when i can tell them the first time i saw almost any movie from my childhood and where. The drive ins we predominantly went to from 1975-1982 and i can recall every single one of them and many times the trailers involved. I watched the 42ND STREET FOREVER vol 4 DVD last night and saw a trailer for the biker comedy HOG WILD that remember seeing before some films at the Northside Drive-in in Brownville when i was a kid. I also vividly recall seeing THE ISLAND at the Black River Drive-in paired up with Langella's DRACULA and being mad that we left before that film started. One of my strongest drive-in memories is being stoked on seeing JAWS 2 when it was released and having to sit through the opening film COAL MINERS DAUGHTER!! At my age,it was like pure unadulterated torture. Obviously,being a product of the 70s,seeing JAWS and STARWARS are two of my most profound memories from my youth,i can almost still smell the artificial butter and burning mosquito coil when i watch them now.

Jan 20 09 4:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I still go to the drive in that I went to as a kid up in North Ridgeville/Avon. We usually catch a couple of movies here every summer. Can't beat $7.00 for a Hellboy Dark Knight double feature. I do miss the days though when they would play the first feature twice, once at the beginning and once at the end. I'd throw a pizza annd some chips in the car and be gone all night.
