Chan's son's were played by asian actors and were presented as intelligent, educated and clever young men. I didn't have a hard time suspending disbelief when Warner Oland portrayed Chan (it was a little tougher to do that with Toler, though) and I always felt that Oland's depiction was respectful and in no way a discredit to asians. Oct 4 11 10:16 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just re-watched (again) CHARLIE CHAN at MONTE CARLO. While not one of Oland's better outings (in fact his last movie ever, and his last time to play "Honorable Detective") it sure is a lot of fun. Though Keye Luke doesn't have as much on-camera time, his physical stunts and gags are great (the peeping tom schtick outside the apartment; the eavesdropping gag in the hotel ) I also always crack up when his character Lee is trying to speak French to the gendarmes. But it's HAROLD HUBER who steals the show and every scene he's in (chewing up scenery and dialog like a Mecha-godzilla). I find his films equally as entertaining now, even though I still prefer Warner in the role! Have fun with your Chan viewings, one of my favorite detective series of films!

Wish it weren't so--can't see Monte Carlo, Broadway or City in Darkness again, darnit....
