Oct 6 08 3:37 PM More My Recent Posts	It's been announced that IRON MAN 2 and MIGHTY THOR will come out in Summer 2010, followed in Summer 2011 by THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA and, a few months later, THE AVENGERS. I'm guessing that the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie will be set during World War II, that it will end with Cap rocketing into oblivion and that THE AVENGERS movie will pick up in present day with Cap being thawed out of the ice and revived to team up with Iron Man, Thor and, presumably, The Hulk. Wouldn't be surprised if the Red Skull's sleepers figure in as well. 'Nuff said!

Now don't get me wrong I'd be okay with that, but it's more likely that the Cap movie will be about the Stan lee/Jack Kirby Cap that was awoken from the arctic slumber and him dealing with a modern world. That's the Cap more people are familiar with and would be far more sellable to a modern audience than Cap slugging Uncle Adolf in the mug (Look for that to open the movie though). The Avengers will come along later... I know, that's not how it happened in the comic, but I think that's what we will get, and I'm okay with that. I love the Simon/Kirby Timely era Cap but Stan Lee's depressed/man out of time Cap was a far more interesting character and will work better on screen. -Gregg

Oct 6 08 5:29 PM More My Recent Posts	It didn't work that well in the 90's version with Matt Salinger...the film was just okay but the suit looked ridiculous(rubbery) and the Red Skull was changed by "plastic surgery" into just another terrorist. And Cap wasn't even shown in the suit much at all.

Oct 6 08 6:47 PM More My Recent Posts	It didn't work well because that movie was complete crap. The idea wasn't the problem it was the really piss poor execution. I don't recall much being made of Cap being a living anachronism in that crudfest except for bad gags asking what some modern equipment was, I do remember his plastic ears however.... Maybe they did, I've tried to erase all memory of that thing. Not only was it bad but I forgot it in my car for two weeks and had an $18.00 late fee on that sucker!!!! GRRRRRRr Cap has been known as a soldier out of time in the modern world for 45 years, he was strictly a guy fighting in his time for 8. So, as I said earlier don't hold your breath for a WWII based movie as the main thrust of the character has long outgrown just being in WWII. But man it would be pretty freaking cool! Oct 6 08 7:52 PM More My Recent Posts	The folks at Marvel seem to understand that the key to success in transferring their heroes to the screen is to keep the characters true and not "improve" them too much. The key to Captain America is in his background and context -- World War II. I'm willing to bet that the bulk of THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA will take place during the War and will certainly feature the Red Skull (doubtful about poor ol' Bucky, though). I wouldn't be surprised to see the Red Skull continue as villain (or one of several villains) in the following AVENGERS movie.

Oct 6 08 10:34 PM More My Recent Posts	Yes WWII is a key element to Captain America but the key to the actual Captain America character is not cap being IN WWII (That alone made for a very basic cardboard character that was quickly forgotten about once the war ended), it is the fact he's a WWII soldier IN a modern day setting, and that's been the crux of the Character, as I've said, for 45 years. This is what makes Cap an interesting character and why he's been viable for that long. It's not trying to improve the character by bringing him into a modern day setting because it's where the character has been for most of his publication history. WWII will take up at most 20 minutes of the film and I'll even give you odds on this bet! Maybe we could set an odds board on all possible script outcomes!!! For instance... BET #1: Movie will be about Nomad and Werwolf Cap 1,000,000 to 1!!!! -Gregg

L The main things I remember about that movie were Cap running away from all the bad guys in the manner of a standard unarmed action hero instead of plowing in and kicking the hell out of them as Kirby's Cap would have done; and the other was the bit in which he's rocketed off by the Red Skull. Cap is captured and chained to the rocket and just as it's about to take off, he manages to reach out and grab the Skull's arm. Desperate to avoid being taken away also due to the strength of Cap's grip, the Skull doesn't chop off Cap's hand, he chops off his own arm.

The Avengers found him floating in the Artic waters where he was slowly thawing after his icy tomb was thrown into the ocean by the Sub-Mariner(whom the Avengers were persuing after attacking them with his ally, the Hulk, in the previous issue.)

Oct 7 08 7:16 PM More My Recent Posts	If they hold to the "spirit" of the original comics and the "Ultimates" updates. Then I agree with davighry. The Cap movie will be WW 2 based. Starting with Cap taking the Super Soldier serum and ending with Cap and Bucky being blown out of the sky while twarting Red Skulls plans. As for the Avengers movie: In the original comic.....the members.... Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man and Wasp....came together to stop a rampaging Hulk (the cause of the rampage was none other than Thor's nemesis Loki). After the defeating Loki, Hulk joins the team. Later the team battles The Sub-Mariner, who in turn finds Cap frozen in Ice....tosses the ice into the sea to be found by the Avengers. A more likely scenario for the Avengers movie is the "Ultimates" revisioning. Nick Fury and Shield (already presented in Iron Man and Hulk movies) put together the team. Dr. Banner is employed to research the secret of the original Super Soldier Serum when Cap is found in the ice and revived. Banner goes nuts, changes into the Hulk and fights Iron Man, Ant/Giant Man, the Wasp and Thor. Personally, I'd love the see the original scenario, where the movie ends with Cap being found in the Ice. It would be really cool to see how they bring Sub-Mariner to the screen......But, it really looks like they'll be following the "Ultimates" version (the "Ultimates" Nick Fury was even drawn to look like Sam Jackson) john

Feige, speaking to online journalists at Universal Studios on May 21, added that Captain America would help set up the eventual Avengers movie, which follows six weeks later. (Feige also confirmed what many fans have speculated: that the star-shaped object in Tony Stark's workshop in Iron Man is indeed part of Cap's famous shield.) I loved the way Kirby drew him, how even though he wore a mask, his "features" were so expressive. The film could make use of CGI for an actor to bring the mask "alive."

Nothing that happened in 'Iron Man' is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants it warrants much further discussion."

Nov 25 08 11:02 PM More My Recent Posts	Sorry Mr. Downey but the Iron Man suit is veryy much out of the realm of possibility. If you can make that suit, you can have a super soldier serum, and if you can have a super soldier serum then you can have a Norse god....ETC. I do think the direction taken by the Ultimates comic would make for a far better movie for the Avengers especially it's take on Thor where it was technically the same Thor and all, but nobody was really sure if he was truly the Norse God or just a crazy guy with god like powers. It works VERY well and doesn't take away from the character like you'd expect. Of course I'm on record on these boards as not being convinced, despite my love for the costume on the printed page, that the classic Thor costume can be pulled off without looking completely ridiculous in a live action flick. I'd love to be proven wrong on the costume... I really would. -Gregg
