Not sure if this has ever been discussed here before but I have always wondered why none of the Poverty Row studios never cast Bela Lugosi in a vampire role? At least I don't think any of them did. It would only seem like an obvious point to sell a film having Lugosi play a similar role to the one that made him famous in Universal's DRACULA. Now I know that a couple of the major studios did cast Lugosi in roles that appeared to be close to his Dracula role such as in MARK OF THE VAMPIRE by MGM and in Columbia's RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE. Why not the Poverty Row studios? Could have the smaller Poverty Row studios been afraid of getting on Universal bad side?
