Spent 99% of the time in the restaurant, in the lobby, in the hallway, in friends rooms and the hallways. Went through the dealer room and grabbed some goods as well. The only things I bothered to go see was the Forry tribute, the Edison Frankenstein which I had somehow always missed, Zac Zito doing Poe followed by the Forry awards. Congrats to Jim for getting one of these, nice to see a few go outside of the family this year. Jeff Barnes, Kyle Nance, Harry Woodberry, Robert Taylor and entourage, Cortlandt and Dennis, Donnie Dunnigan, Joe Moe, Janie and Max, Gord Shriver all spent a great deal of time catching up with us at various points over the weekend. I missed Dave Coulton, he was in and out before I caught up with him. Next year I hope to see all of you if you attend, I'll be in the same spots again, stop by and sit a spell....

Hanging out with friends is always the highlight of the Bash for me. I am just sad that I only get to see certain friends once or twice a year. As for the programming, the highlight for me is always Don Reese's act and this year he was funnier than ever with a lot of new material. Zach Zito's performance of "The Tell-Tale Heart" was also amazing and I think it blew everyone away! I am looking forward to whatever Zach does next year. I was glad to see Jim get a Forry. It is well deserved. MFTV is a classy publication -- one that does monster kids proud.

I've spoken briefly with him at previous Bash cons, but got to sit and chat at length this time and enjoyed it thoroughly. He's a lovely gent, he is! Also talked to Don Reece more than in previous years--and he is not only the funniest man in the biz, but also one of the kindest. It occurs to me that I go to movie conventions and talk about everything BUT movies! As always, fun to meet and greet-- Janet Ann Gallow is a doll, Yvonne Monlaur ditto, and although I mentioned their movies when I spoke to them, I talked more about Janet's love of gardening and Yvonne's grandchild--I talked about art with Gary Conway (hope to purchase a painting from him before long) and about Texas cuisine with Donnie and Dana Dunagan. Generally speaking (which I am), it was an enjoyable convention, and ditto the above posts--meeting up with old friends is the greatest joy of it all.

And I wasn't taking it easy on the kid. Okay, at the beginning I might have tossed him an easy question or two thinking, "I don't want him to end up with NO points," but I very quickly discovered that he was no slouch. Toward the end I hit him with a series of four questions that I'd intended to ask four different people, but I wanted to see if he could "run" the category: What brain does the Monster get in FRANKENSTEIN? In GHOST OF FRANK? In HOUSE OF FRANK? Whose brain is he SUPPOSED to get in A&C MEET FRANK? And the kid came right back with, "Abnormal brain." "Ygor's brain." "Ullman's brain." "Wilbur's brain." "Ullman's brain"??!!!?? ULLMAN's ****ing brain???!?!?! How did he get that? NObody should have gotten that. On the longest and best day of my life, I sure wouldn't have gotten that. But THIS kid did. I wanted to know what dimension this kid materialized out of, so at the very end when it should have been over, I said, "Tell us about yourself" and handed him the mike and stepped off the stage. And he told the audience that he was writing a book on all the old Universal horrors. Jeez, every generation of monstuh pitcha nut researcher-writer seems to put the prior one to shame -- and here we go again, maybe! Two-Generations-Back-Already Tom

I had lots of fun "opening for a movie premiere," but unfortunately needed to wait for the home release to view it because my wife and daughter were waiting for me on the lawn and it was Daughter Katelyn's first time watching A&C ever. (She told me, "I like the monsters, but only when they are being funny and not when they're scary." It's fun to see glimpses of the world through a 4 year old's eyes!) Katelyn already loves drive-ins and she was looking forward to the movie all weekend. Daddy can also say that he was too since he hasn't seen A&CMF in quite a few years, so it was nice to share the experience with my wife and daughter for the first time. So...thank you to the entire crew for a great time. Thanks to TDSH Max for the invite to help him w/ his premiere, and thanks to Ron for hosting a horror convention that allows me to hang out and watch a movie with my own Monster Kid! Chris

I may have gotten mixed up whether it was Ullman or Strauss, if I hadn't thought it out carefully! But then I have to think of the scene where Karloff says: "As for you, Strauss -- I'm going to give you the brain of the Wolf Man!" (so I'd have figured on Ullman as the monster's donor by process of elimination!). By the way, Tom - now you've got me wondering.... wasn't the monster only "SUPPOSED" to get Ullman's brain (as with Wilbur's?). Niemann didn't actually make the switch in the movie, did he? Seriously, there IS a surgery-on-the-Monster scene later in the picture (isn't there?) so I ass-u-me that's what's happening. I'd have to see it again. Funny to think of Frank Reicher's brain being in the Monster in HOUSE OF DRAC and A&CMF.

Tom Weaver tells me it was a great time and congratulations to Ron and staff for having organized another terrific Bash. Congratulations also to Jim Clatterbaugh on his award, and sorry to have missed the unveiling of the "Kharis Unearthed" issue of MFTV! Greg
