I've never been to this one but was thinking of attending. The plus is that it focuses on the old-school stuff, which I prefer vastly, but it seems like
when I just checked the guest list there's barely anyone there, which makes me think it's small. Programs look good though, Edison's Frankenstein
is drawing me in already I admit

They have a good selection of dealers, and the show is very family friendly. They usually attract between 1,500 and 2,000 for the weekend and you can actually move around comfortably (unlike Chiller). I've only missed one show since 1997 and I HIGHLY recommend this show. I've been to tons of horror conventions, but for my money Monster Bash is tops today.

If any dealers attending would be willing to rent a corner space of their table either for all three days or just Saturday, please let me know. By the time my
book was published and I contacted MonsterBash, only hallway tables were left and I suspect a whole table for one novel is a not a sound investment.

I'll be there on Saturday, the 27th. My second Bash. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone. Hopefully this time I'll have the courage to
say hi to more people instead of just staring at name tags.

Bash isn't bad, but its not what it once was. The past few years they've drifted from the classic horror more towards TV shows and schlocky 50s and 60s
sci-fi. Also its sacreligious to have a so called "Frankenstein" Bash and NOT invite Sara Karloff. You can get Lou Ferrigno but not Sara? Yeesh....

Ron did invite Sara, but at that time she had to deal with family health problems and begged off until she could be certain she'd be able to attend. Once
things were ok again, she told them she could now attend, but was told it was too late and there was no room. I agree, TSV--sad to have a
"Frankenstein" Bash without the Karloff family being represented!

There were other issues involved with Rons original invite to Sara. Robert Taylor and I got to spend a delightful weekend with her in October at Bill Milhorns
con ( literally got to spend a weekend with her since attendance was, a bit thin...lol) and she had no intention of going at that time, but after learning
Robert and I would be attending, she said " why not? I'd love to see old friends" and called Ron to see if the invite was still good. It wasnt of
course, having been filled by such Frankenstein luminaries as Lou Ferrigno....

I'm not just saying this because, yes, SCARY MONSTERS is the co-sponsor each year, Ron Adams runs a great convention since day one! Personally, I had probably the best time ever last year, maybe because I actually got to see some of the guests and talk to them like Bert I. Gordon and of course GIANT GILA MONSTER star Don Sullivan. I grew up watching the 50s AIP's and other films and they are at the top of my list as monster movie favorites. And, YES, they are monster movie classics in my mind. It's too bad about Sara but the guest list is still impressive and a nice collection of personalities. |

Hey, if part of the thrill of going to Monster Bash is chatting-up someone who's seen few or no Boris Karloff movies, there's always the girls at the
front desk, and the restaurant help -- won't THEY do?

Well Tom, I reckon it couldnt be any worse than seeing Bert Gordon and Susan Gordon for the 3rd and 4th time in the past 5 years or so.... If Bash is about
"classic horror", where is it? Ron Chaney and Janet Anne Gallow, thats it?

EDITOR MFTV wrote: Turhan Bey and Dick Miller jump to mind. Bela Jr hasnt been since '01, of course if you go strictly by the "had to star in a classic film" definition, it would be difficult. But having the Universal kids there is a satisfying compromise, also There are other people still around who may not have actually starred in the films, but had things to do with them. You agree with my premise though, apparently that there seem to be few to NO classic horror guests being scheduled. I just cant see the classic horror and sci-fi tag anymore. It'd be closer to say sci-fi Bash, since thats about all it is now. |

Turhan Bey hasn't been in America for years, and bringing him in from overseas would cost two arms and a leg; we can scratch him off, unfortunately. Just
about everybody else from the old-oldies is either too ancient or has been around the block too many times IMHO. I want the kids (and grandkids and
great-grandkids) at these cons like Custer wanted more Indians, I wouldn't even know what to say to one of 'em.

We've removed a thread about next year's Monster Bash which appeared to be simply an outlet to 'bash' next year's Bash before this
year's has even happened.
We won't turn this board over to nonsensical criticisms. Guest choices are fair game, and no one has to like everything, Shadowy One, but to accuse a convention that has a Frankenstein theme of abandoning 'classic horror' is simply bashing for the sake of bashing, and it is pretty obvious. So whether friend or foe of the new Bash, let's not waste everyone's time with non-issues just for the sake of stirring up things. Thanx. david

Yeah, in fandom there's really room for everyone and far too few of us anyway. I think the Bash really has a unique attitude and atmosphere, guests aside.
Truthfully, I never much cared about the celebrity guests anyway. I mainly look forward to visiting with all of my friends.
Hung out with Ron and Linda Chaney over the weekend at Monsterpalooza. They'll be bringing their daughters (so passionate and interested in their family legacy) for the first time. It's interesting to imagine all that those girls might learn from US about their own grandfolks. They're all really excited to see everyone!! |

That said, how many CHFBers will be at this year's Bash?
Besides Tom (and CHFBer Joe Moe!), I'll be there at least on Saturday. Roll call! |
