May 10 12 8:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You may be confusing GIANT OF MARATHON with HERCULES, in the category of flying projectiles. In the beginning Olympic Games montage in MARATHON, Reeves hurls a javelin that seems to fly off forever toward the right. When he throws the discus in HERCULES, we hear the sound of it flying away, a sound that sounds like a flying saucer to me.

May 11 12 8:14 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	True, and I always wondered how they did that effect...the same with that ball thing he took from Mylene and threw over the trees. But, even after 53 years (gee, has it been that long?), I still remember the audience's reaction to that scene with the flying saucer sound. I have often wondered if I have been blending the discus/arrow shooting scene from Hercules, Samson and Ulysses with the original discus scene but I don't think so. Still, I appreciate your comment.

The only ones I've seen are the Steve Reeves Hercules and Hercules in the Haunted World. There is a thread that never ends. Yes, it goes on and on my friends. Some people started it not knowing that a tree can walk, And they'll keep posting forever about a movie they can mock...

Sep 3 12 8:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just saw "Maciste Against Hercules In The Vale Of Woe" for the second time. Yes, a lot of people consider a Peplum COMEDY pretty redundant, but I think a whole lot of it worked, at least as well as Colossus and the Amazon Queen. One of the things that stood out was its comical version of Circe the sorceress, partly the Italian actress who played her, and partly the actress who did the dubbing. The first time I saw it I immediately thought of June Foray (which is no surprise), but the second time I noticed she sounds like "Mrs. Callahan" in Maneater of Hydra. Someone told me that Ann Meara did the Mrs. Callahan voice in the dubbed version. Does someone know whether she did this character? (I'm guessing an out of the way thing like that wouldn't be on IMDB, but I'm not sure.)

Sep 10 12 10:16 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Does anyone know which of these films had a scenario involving the heroic character watching as a young woman was fitted for robes and a tiara she would wear during a ceremony which would end to her ritual sacrifice to a bloodthirsty deity (maybe Moloch?). I know there were one or two films that had Carthaginian themes but this doesn't seem to be one of them. In the scene I saw, the hero denounced the rites as barbaric and the evil High Priestess gave a disdainful simper and commented on how little he understood. I saw it on late late late TV around 40 years ago... would be fun to see the complete film at some point... H.

Sep 14 12 11:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	And, don't forget Susanne "Susan" Loret (who was also in ATOM AGE VAMPIRE and UNCLE WAS A VAMPIRE), who plays the beautiful undersea goddess Amphrite (sp?). The Spanish language version of THE MINOTAUR is in mint condition (on a Spanish/Warner DVD), but with no English subtitles or dubbing. Que lastima! The DVD is perfectly letterboxed at 2:35-1.

Although LORD OF THE RINGS had been printed prior to the 1960s, not until the middle 60s did paperback publishers start releasing old fantasy-novels to cash in on a Tolkien cult-boom. I don't see any connection between peplum and the "magical fantasy-world" genre. NATURALISTIC! UNCANNY! MARVELOUS!

Last Days of Pompeii (German DVD with English track) Colossus of Rhodes (Warner DVD) Hercules and the Captive Women (Retromedia) Hercules Unchained (Italian DVD) Hannibal (VCI) The Magnifcent Gladiator Gladiators 7 (Cheezy Flicks) Among others.

According to imdb it's included in a Trimark box set entitled "The Adventures of Hercules," though I've no idea if it's the film you recall. NATURALISTIC! UNCANNY! MARVELOUS!
