Isn't War Of the Trojans also called The Avenger? Isn't Anteus the evil fake Hercules, son of Gaia in Hercules the Avenger with Reg Park? Carl

I bought a region 2 DVD of the two Hercules films just so I could have them in widescreen. I wish I can find Morgan and Theif in widescreen too. I took the region 2 DVDs to a British shop in Santa Monica and they transfered them, for a price of course, so I can watch them on my region 1 player. NOTE: The one DVD release of Hercules in widescreen is missing a scene, where I think Circie tells Hercules that to love, he has to become human. Anyway, if you're in Southern CA, there's a Steve Reeves "Con" next weekend. Here's the text from an email I received. Hello Steve Reeves Fans, This e-mail is to inform you of the upcoming **Steve Reeves Film Festival, a** once in a lifetime event being held this August 22 and 23 in Steve's home town of Valley Center, California. The event will take place at the Harrah's Rincon Hotel / Casino Resort in Valley Center, California (Valley Center is just 35 miles north of San Diego). Friday Evening Agenda (August 22): The evening starts with a 1-hour reception followed by dinner and live entertainment. The only reason I remembered Aeneas's name is because I had to read Vergil's "Aeneid" in school. The Steve Reeves version was more exciting. I think it's THE TROJAN HORSE, too, one of the most elaborately produced pepla I've seen. The sequel is nowhere near as spectacular.

May 13 09 4:04 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just bought the new "Hercules Collection", which is a repackage of the individual Retromedia DVDs, but I wanted the Widescreen of Hercules, and I only already had their Hercules the Avenger disc, and it was cheap enough, and a nice looking set, so I got it. I also have that Warriors set, and a few other individual quality DVDs. I haven't watched a lot of these, but I have watched a lot of these, there are so many. I would like to get that other set, The Steve Reeves Collection, it looks good. But I think these films are great entertainment.

Mar 12 10 10:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just saw Hercules and the Captive Women, and considering that it's another Reg Park, and that Reg was in what I consider the best of the classic Hercules series (Hercules In The Haunted World), he must be my favorite. Now, it wasn't as good as Haunted World, but I thought it had plenty of action & spectacle, and Fay Spain was quite an evil minx! What is it with the boulders, though? Does every peplum with a super-strong protagonist have them helfting boulders at one point or another? Finally - I've heard it said that Conan the Barbarian didn't do that great in the US, but that it was a big hit in continental Europe. Was it billed as (or was it just seen as by audiences of the time) a modern peplum?

Mar 13 10 9:38 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I love Goliath and the Dragon --- in many ways it epitomizes the appeal of these movies. However, the print in the Warriors collection is abysmal. If they swiped it from Something Weird they did a poor job of it. I bought the SW tape for $2 from someone who was getting rid of all his VHS and the quality is ten times better than the Warriors DVD.

Mar 13 10 2:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	HERCULES, HERCULES UNCHAINED, HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD, HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN, GIANT OF METROPOLIS, GOLIATH AND THE DRAGON, THE LOVES OF HERCULES, HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN, GOLIATH AND THE VAMPIRES, GOLIATH AGAINST THE GIANTS, THE INVINCIBLE PERSEUS, GIANTS OF THESSALY, COLOSSUS OF THE STONE AGE, and CONQUEROR OF ATLANTIS all have strong fantasy elements. I forget the title, but there's a Hercules picture with Dan Vadis in which he fights some giant bronze guys in bald wigs, whacking them with a big club. The image is accompanied by a loud gong sound effect. Sheer entertainment. Dr. Acula, it's not just the boulders. Trees are often uprooted and tossed at adversaries too. Occasionally it's a stone colum or a throne that's tossed. The website Peplumz has edited some of these cliches together from several movies. It's a lot of fun to watch. They also have entire features you can watch in segments, as do their sister sites Sappho and With Fire and Sword.

May 24 10 10:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It looks like a real DVD. The image is really sharp, the color is rich, and it's in the proper aspect ratio. The flip side, GOLIATH AND VAMPIRES, does look like a DVD-R, however, but I don't know where you'd find a better copy.

May 25 10 11:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Warriors boxed set is certainly worth the $20 I paid for it but the image quality of most of the movies varies from bad to nearly unwatchable. Some of them look like they were dubbed from third generation home video. Goliath and the Dragon, one of my favorites, looks far, far worse than the Something Weird VHS I bought for $2. On the plus side the set does include many titles I've wanted to see for a long time, including Giants of Thessaly, another version of the Argonauts, but what a disappointment. No dragon! Everyone knows the Golden Fleece was guarded by a dragon! I don't know if it qualifies as peplum but another movie I've long wanted to check out is Dragon's Blood, a German retelling of Siegfried. But if I ever do find it, it damn well better have a dragon.

It definitely has a dragon--there were pics in a past Filmfax issue. It looks like there's a copy or two of the DVD available at Amazon France. May 26 10 1:19 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It isn't ' 70s or ' 60s, and I can guess a lot of the answers, but how does anyone feel about the Lou Ferrigno Hercules from ' 83? I saw it a few weeks ago, and kind of liked it. One of my few complaints about Peplum films is that too many of them leave the gods too much to your imagination, which works for some but not others. This movie had them all over the place, like a Harryhausen mythology film. It also had an extremely obscure moment that made me sure the writer had read The Greek Myths by Robert Graves, one of those books packed with more information on a given page than almost anyone can digest (it's just that I've read it a lot of times).
