Aug 9 08 10:16 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	the nice thing is most are ripped from Sinister Cinema, so you can get a lot of rares. I guess I need to break down and grab that WARRIORS set. I've got a number of the films as stand-alones or double features from Image/Something Weird, etc., but that's probably the best, most economic way of grabbing up the rest. You know, now that I think about it, I think we may actually have a sword & sandal thread from some time back, elsewhere on the board. I'll see if I can find it and post a link, here.

The most enjoyable pics so far have been GIANTS OF ROME, SAMSON AND THE 7 MIRACLES OF THE WORLD, and SON OF HERCULES AGAINST THE FIRE MONSTERS. GIANTS OF ROME has Julius Caesar ordering his mightiest soldiers on a "Dirty Dozen" style commando mission. Lots of action. SAMSON AND THE 7 MIRACLES OF THE WORLD features Gordon Scott -- in bright red panties & boots -- doing most of his own stunts. Goofy fun. SON OF HERCULES AGAINST THE FIRE MONSTERS doesn't have any fire monsters in it! It does, however, offer a nubile, 19-year old Margaret Lee (hubba hubba) as a fur-clad cave bunny and hilariously bad dubbing. "Dammit, it's jammed!" www.eccentric-cinema.com

I like it quite alot. I also have a few stand alone discs. I just recently aquired the OOP Trimark DVD box set of The Adventures of Hercules, 7 movies. I have Fantoma's Hercules In the Haunted World, SWV's Goliath and the Dragon/Conqueror Of Atlantis, and Retromedia's Hercules the Avenger/Hercules and the Black Pirate, and Giant of Metroplis. And a few dollar DVDs. I really like Gladiators 7. I guess I should have started this thread in the foreign horror section. Carl

Back to fantasy and sci-fi themed, I find a very similar feel in the designs in Giant Of Metropolis and Planet Of the Vampires. I think my viewing plan for today is Hercules and the Barbarians. I haven't seen this one, that I recall. Carl

Aug 13 08 7:03 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Even though I like his Peplum films, I can't help typecasting Harrison because of his Italian SPY movies. Even though they seem to invite that phrase "Bond rip-off" more than others, they're also especially GOOD ones, and he has a real "screen presence" in them. How does everyone here feel about Conqueror of Atlantis? It's in a Peplum sub-category almost by itself (although Giant of Metropolis, which I've probably never seen, sounds a little similar). This was nearly my first Peplum film (and also nearly my first exposure to Atlantis), so I'm completely biased about it. But even considering that, it has a whole lot going for it - an Atlantis tie-in, "pulp" science fiction, a theatrical horror movie-type villain, a hot evil queen with a hot female army. And as far as relatively small things, it's about the only movie or show I know of that uses the name "Herakles" instead of "Hercules." Another odd thing is that, in spite of having a sort of "sensitive" look about him, Kirk Morris plays one of the more ruthless Peplum heroes (in this film and one or two others).

I've been going back and re-viewing some of Mr. Reeves' films this summer in the hope of finding one specific film. From what I remember, the film in question has Mr. Reeves' character leading a group of people out of some sort of mythical town or city (presumably after some great battle or challenge), the music swells, fade out..... the end! (I know this is not much to work with.) I would have sworn the scene was from "Thief Of Bagdad" but after a recent viewing I found that this scene was nowhere to be found. My only other thought was perhaps I was thinking about one of the "Sandokan" (sp??) films. If anyone knows of the film in question I would appreciate the benefit of a more superior memory than mine.

In the end, the Greeks beat Troy, and take over their city. But Reeves' character Anteus, escapes with his child and others, and they take off, to later found Rome. It has the imagery you describe. He plays the same part in a sequel about Aeneas's adventures in Italy, called WAR OF THE TROJANS, one of several English titles. Aeneas was shown leaving the city in the recent extravaganza TROY, too.
