I've just gone through all 32 pages in this folder and..............NO Village of the Damned ? I know it's gotta be here. It was made in 1960. Which reminds me, what a great great film. From the script, to the direction, to the casting.. What a knock out. This film made right on that transitional fault-line of the late 50's into the 60's give it this nether-timeless quality.(Me thinks) Man, we really should be talking & dissecting this film. I think it made more of an impression on the genre, than we give thought to.(Me thinks). Well I'm sure I'll come up with some deep, deep insites about the subject. But not right now. Jul 14 08 2:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think it's a fine example of a British sc-fi/horror film with a modest budget. It has a tight, efficient feeling to it. It's no longer or shorter than it needs to be. It's nicely directed and very well acted. The cast includes many reliable actors like Laurence Naismith and Michael Gwynne. George Sanders carries the movie with an unusually sympathetic role which he brings off believably. He doesn't looked bored here. Barbara Shelley has never been more appealing. Martin Stephens is perfect as David. The other children provide some of the creepiest visages I've ever seen. Very effective casting of the kids. The premise is chilling and the story is involving. VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED is right up there with THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT, QUATERMASS 2 and X THE UNKNOWN in my book. Jul 14 08 9:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Like MonsterPal, I was also quite affected by this film in 1960--but more so from the TV advertisements! (Gil, you and I must be about the same age). I never got to see the film until many years later (like 1972, I think), and thankfully the real thing stood up to my memories of it. Very off-putting, almost fairy-tale like, especially during the opening "blackout" sequence. Barbara Shelley was perfect, as was George Sanders. Martin Stephens was great, too, though his voice sounded strangely dubbed-in, or at least looped. Did you guys notice that young David (who figures out the Chinese puzzle), and the little girl with similar talents are both played by the same child? To this day, the scenes of the children "staring" can't be beat...and again, that weird, dreamlike music! Brrrr... A true classic in every regard. They immediately brought something up that is either too obvious, or I'm way off course...those blond headed kids (most of 'em anyway)...could this have been an intentional look by the filmakers to inject a Nazi superiour race on our fears? I read the book, but I don't remember if there was a blond hair connection even mentioned. Just wondering, Gil

I found the DVD at my local store, containing this double bill for only $5, so it was a no-brainer----I'd been wanting to see this movie for a long time. The first movie is definitely superior, IMHO, to its sequel. It's a real gem-----I really enjoyed it! Probably the best horror film to come out of the U.K. until THE WICKER MAN came along in the '70s.
