Jul 18 08 10:36 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Oh now that can't be right. I've stood next to Vincent Price and had to look down to meet his eye, and I'm only around 6'2". Hal, maybe you were walking on air, meeting such an icon? IMDB seems to confirm Lee's comment. It lists Price at 6'4" and Lee at 6'4 and 1/2" (And if you see them standing together in films, or photos, from SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN or HOUSE OF LONG SHADOWS, it's pretty even. (But, as was pointed out, people do shrink or stoop with age.) When I saw Price, he was up onstage, so I wasn't able to put him in perspective to me. Jul 30 08 12:45 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Actually, as some people grow older their bodies settle and they shrink a little. It could be that Mr. Lee has simply lost an inch or so since his glory days. As far as Robert Downey Jr. goes, it could be worse. They could have picked Tom Cruise or Keanue Reeves, right? My personal pick for the master sleuth of Baker Street would fall between Christian Bale for a younger Holmes and Gary Oldman for an older Holmes. (And while this topic has not come up yet, I would like to say that I can think of no better person to portray the Napolean of Crime than Ian McKellan). I do have a question regarding this movie. When I first read the announcement of the new film on superherohype.com, they said the movie would be based on a Sherlock Holmes comic book and not the short stories. They never came out and said this, but the emphasis seemed to be this was a current comic. Does anyone know anything about this? BTW, I'm new here. My name's Mark and this is my first post. You know, I've always thought Patrick Stewart would be good as either Holmes or Moriarty, in the right project.

Aug 12 08 6:31 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	IMO it's only because of Downey's unfortunate struggles with drugs and alcohol that he isn't universally recognized as one of the great actors of this generation. i'll never forget his performance in Less Than Zero. he was brilliant. one of the great students of acting, i'm sure he will emmerse himself in the character of holmes and we'll all be treated with one of the great performances of the sherlockian films. so very glad he is doing so well. Mel Gibson was desperate to mount a (stage) HAMLET a few years back, starring Downey. Gibson was convinced that Jr. would be one of the great Danes. Unfortunately, this was during Downey's most self-destructive period, and every time Mel made a move toward it, Downey was soon on his way to rehab or jail again.

I'm very fond of Nighy, especially after his face began showing his age. Before that, he was a good, utility character actor who turned up in a wide variety of roles, nothing very prominent. But from LOVE, ACTUALLY onward, he's been great time and time again. He's well aware that his craggy face is his fortune--and it makes him perfectly suited for Moriarty. This is an inspired idea--I hope the makers of this movie come up with it, too. I interviewed him a couple of times; he's a very amusing guy.
