How many terms have you found to contrast the level of visceral material in a given horror work?

I can think of...

"gross horror" vs. "subtle horror"
"loud horror" vs. "quiet horror"

and even "horror" vs. "terror," where "terror" is seen as being the subtler emotion.

It seems as though there are others, but if so I can't put my mental finger on 'em.
