I have just finished THE LONE DEFENDER which is a very primitive Mascot effort from 1930 with atrocious acting and a confused plot.
While I am certain everyone who has watched or heard of this serial knows it is a stinker, have you fellows noticed the fight scene in chapter one. Rinty rushes into the saloon and attacks Robert Kortman. The voice of the director is clearly audible on the soundtrack as he talks the stuntmen ("Jack" early in the fight-"Earl" during the latter stages) through their battle with Rinty. I couldn't pick up everything, but I caught a few phrases--"Pick him up, Jack." "Roll back. He will follow." "Kick out at him, Jack. Kick off." "Come on, Earl, kick him with the other foot." "Brace him with your arm."
Has anyone else ever heard the director on a soundtrack? What movies?
