Sep 6 07 11:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I also love the fact that for hundreds of years, legions of treasure hunters have been unable to find the treasure chamber -- but when Zucco goes to it, right in the middle of the treasure-hunting hot zone, we see that he enters through a big, obvious door on the side of a huge rock. I think Helen Keller could have found it, given an hour or two!

Sep 6 07 2:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yeah, this is a lot like DEVIL BAT and doesn't even have Dave O'Brien, much less Lugosi. But the monster is one of the strangest in Hollywood horror of the 30s and 40s--said to be an Aztec god, but looking like a very stiff lizard with feathered wings. Where the heck did THAT come from?

Sep 6 07 5:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	PRC showed considerable restraint when making their Quetzalcoatl prop. While writing POVERTY ROW HORRORS! I went to the library and looked at reproductions of ancient artwork of the "real" feathered serpent, and it was pretty ludicrous, even by ancient Aztec standards, I think!

Sep 6 07 6:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I would have thought it was bleedin' obvious that I wasn't asking for the origin of Quetzelcoatl; I've been familiar with the fellow since FIND THE FEATHERED SERPENT. And it's explained in the movie, too. I was wondering as to how he came to end up in a cheap horror movie, not noted for their reliance on New World myths..

Sep 14 07 9:34 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I haven't seen this movie in at least four decades; it was televised on local N.Y. television back in the 1960's- good old WPIX-11, I think. I DO remember watching it with my brother and we both started laughing when Zucco was running away from the feathered serpent during the finale. I remember that wires were clearly visible or something. Not necessarily an indication that the picture has held up well over the years.

Mar 26 08 7:04 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just got the Image DVD of THE FLYING SERPENT from Amazon for about $5. I would agree with the back of the DVD box, Groovy Nightmare, it's a whole lot of campy fun! As I've said before, these old PRC films transport me back to the dreams and nightmares of my childhood. The melodramatic music, the murky B&W images, the visible wires, the reliance on day for night, these things all shaped my nightmares as a kid. While I like THE DEVIL BAT better, this is a fun spin on the theme. Plus, it gets points for making use of Quetzalcoatl. In fact, THE FLYING SERPENT makes a nice double feature with Q. The monster prop was actually pretty neat.Sure, you can see the wires in the flying scenes, but it's wings are flapping by themselves and everything! I too thought the matte paintings of the temple were pretty darn cool! I spotted a fun BLOOPER: Just before the first victim (the doctor) gets out of his car, you can clearly and plainly see a crew member with his hands on his hips reflected in the passenger window of the car. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I really enjoyed this little flick last night! FLYING SERPENT is one of those goofy late night pleasures. Yeah, the prop monster is not up to O'Brien or Harryhausen standards, but still...grab some chips, a soda, kick back in the recliner and hang out with Zucco for the better part of an hour. While I like THE DEVIL BAT better, this is a fun spin on the theme. Plus, it gets points for making use of Quetzalcoatl. In fact, THE FLYING SERPENT makes a nice double feature with Q. Never tried that; but have paired it as the second half of a double bill with DEVIL BAT.

Apr 16 08 6:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I saw this years ago before the death of Chiller Theatre on Ch. 10 WBNS in Columbus, Ohio. CT was a latenight dbl feature on Fri. night. I remember bits and peices and liked the film. I never realized it was poverty row. The whole idea of the movie was cool for 1947. A LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND.... ..AND ONE IN YOURS SOON ENOUGH!!!!

This was a staple in the old Nightmare Theater package (which also introduced me to Night Monster, brrrr) that I watched on Friday nights when I lived in Salt Lake City from age 5 to 18. Wasn't as cheesy to a pre-teen. And I vaguely recall seeing this long before Devil Bat, so maybe that's one of the reasons I'm so fond of this junior-grade Q. ... Reed
