Nov 18 12 8:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Clearly it was Baker and Rambaldi's amazing mechanical KONG masks that won it that Oscar, the hands were pretty good too. Also, after almost 40 years "ROCKY" is still the Best Picture of that year and deserves every ounce of that Oscar gold.

I agree, and actually I think Rambaldi, Robinson, and Baker all deserved an Oscar for their work on the film, for their amazing mechanical creations, it just shouldn't have been a Visual Effects Oscar, but a Special Effects Oscar. Then why do you want Baker back in the suit to fight the snake? You mean Baker fighting a CGI snake? Then why not just have the Baker Kong in the Shea Stadium scene for all the shots which would have looked better back in 1976 anyway?

Apr 5 13 6:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You know I love the 76 version, it's a guilty pleasure and I saw it on it's original release. I had seen the 33 version on tv but could only marvel at Kong/Dinasours/Action etc and pretty much didn't take much from the acting/story, so the 76 film was the first I took any real intrest in. When I look at the two now I see that in both films the parts are better than the sum. In the 33 film, the dialogue is so...strange. Did Americans really speak like that in 1933? The acting is basic but fine for it's era wheras the dialogue reflects it's 70's base "has Prescott flipped his lid?"....the acting is great and natural. The photography is really good too in the original while in the remake it's magnificent. Obviously the mattes/minatures/models are stupendous in the 33 film while the 76 version is so wrong on so many counts. The matte/process work is really poor and while Rick Baker and his amazing masks did a fine job, why didn't anyone decide to shoot Kong at a faster= slower speed while in long /medium shots (like the breakthrough at the wall) to give him more "weight",. The robot could have been used as a huge moving- mannequin at the entrance (scaring the kids) to the arena rather then be seen in those brief shots as a stand-in for Rick. But with John Barry's great score it does still creep into the good but-not-so good remake of the original.
