Funny you mentioned WHITE BUFFALO. I caught up with that movie about a month or two ago. Aside from horror/sci-fi I've long been fascinated by films revolving around Native American folklore etc. For that reason alone I checked out WHITE BUFFALO. Not great but not too bad either. Although it twists the legend of the white buffalo (generally viewed in native culture as sacred) to present the animal as a threat, it seemed to work just fine for the sake of the movie. After seeing Bronson cast in roles as Latinos and Native Americans (I was suprised to learn that he was Lithuanian) in westerns for years it was refreshing to see him as Bill Hickok. PLUS we get John Carradine! I didn't catch the whole thing but next time it pops up I think I will. As far as KONG 76 goes...meh. I really wanted to like it but after seeing KONG wrestle with that silly looking snake I was reminded of Bela struggling with the octopus in BRIDE OF THE MONSTER. That was bad enough but the lack of dinosaurs sealed the deal for me. It did make me aware of what a good looking woman Lange was (and still is). Just GORGEOUS! AND even though Kong is a man in a suit, it's a damn good suit at that. Then again I've never seen Baker do crappy work...not to mention he seems like a cool guy in interviews. I'm ashamed to say this but...I actually prefer KING KING LIVES. True it is one of the stupidest things to ever stumble across a movie screen. But hey (!) it was the first Kong movie I ever seen. I will now put my tail in between my legs and hide in the corner...

D'oh! LOL...Thanks for pointing that out. I think I'll just leave it that way so nobody knows I enjoyed KING KONG LIVES. D'oh! I just admitted it again! Well in my defense I was seven when I seen it.

King Kong Lives would have been fine had the same thing been done by Toho in the 60s.
I find the idea of a female Kong rather tacky

BijouBob8mm wrote: I find the idea of a female Kong rather tacky Why? If there were no female Kongs, there probably wouldn't be any Kongs, King or otherwise. (You see, when a Daddy Kong and a Mommy Kong love each other very much, they have what we call "quality cave time" together....)
Its just visually, a female Kong looks odd, with the weird breasts and all. Like a harier version of Claire Davenport. Strange I know... Speaking of the Kong hype machine, I find it ammusing that some people STILL buy into Dino's hype. From Film Score Monthly's liner notes for their great CD reissue of the beautiful John Barry score
The director [John Guillermin] insisted on only two specifications for Kong: a full-sized ape's head and a mechanical hand able to pick up the girl - two things notably absent from the original version.
I don't know if its mechanical, but both things are in the original. The only FX mention in the notes is of the robot - no Rick Baker

In defense of Dino, at least he had enough good taste not to show that...

Or Kong could have just fallen for Linda Hamilton, like we all do!
