Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

If my memory is correct, I thought the source for the previous lost scenes was from an attic in Philadelphia. so who's to say....? I'll believe it when I see it.

We pursued this at USA TODAY and, without revealing our source (a very highly placed one!), I can say that the spider sequence has NOT been found. Too bad...will our search NEVER end? david

The spider scene would have been cool, but I don't think it should be put back in the movie anyway. Much more important to getting Kong better than we've ever seen it. Can't wait 'til November! I've also heard they're going to have a theatrical release for the restoration; anybody know any details? The first couple times I saw Kong was in the theater, back in the early-mid 70's when they first found the censored footage. Be neat to see the ole' boy back up on the big screen. "If I had a hidden microphone inside of my heart, I would turn the power on..."

Like Warners is doing anti-PR: "We let it leak that the scene is found, let them get their hopes up, then tell them it isn't. Until finally--like Ralphie and his Red Ryder rifle in CHRISTMAS STORY--we show 'em it was behind the couch the whole time!" Yeah, that's it.

It seems that that has been an issue. Well, I tried not to get my hopes up too high when it was announced. Looks like it's suicide again for me. :)

On an additional note,...i'm curious if the new DVD will feature a new print, or the same master that was used in the R2 version..... www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obi...14-9106063 (this is a great DVD by the way) I'm of the opinion that the spider sequence will never be found. George Turner had said in SPAWN OF SKULL ISLAND that when Merian Cooper removed a scene he burned the footage....!!!!! Is the scene in a lost print....??? I doubt it. I love all the new footage and sound discs turning up from classic films from what were previously private collections, but If said sequence had survived, would't we have seen it somewhere by now...? Edisons FRANKENSTEIN (1910) is just one example. I just look forward to a nice remastered print of KONG,...and hope some idiot hasn't removed Obies finger prints from Kongs fur with CGI. Incorporation of any footage whatsoever would alter the running time; I'm just wondering if there is an "ideal" or standard (expected) running time for this version. The PAL2 Golden Classics disc CLAIMS 96 minutes for the feature, but it's the same print as the Turner Classics 60th Anniversary VHS, which runs 100 minutes. There are MANY international DVD variants, none of them very good. I saw one from Australia that was punishably bad. And for those who care: Off-topic, off-thread, and wrong decade, but still, the Madman/Eastern Eye DVD of both versions of GOJIRA/GODZILLA is a must-have.

Don't know why I thought that, or what sense it would make to do so, but wouldn't that be the coolest easter egg ever? But since somebody says it is there, and Warners says "nope"...maybe they are sneaking it in.

If it's NOT true, I'd love to know why they started the rumor -- NOW the DVD release of KONG won't be cause for unbridled celebration, there'll be the irritating twinge of "Oh damn, damn, damn, no spider scene AFTER all!!"

Jul 7 05 4:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Regarding the Spider Pit sequence, I had heard from a pretty reliable source that, although the original footage is still missing, there will be a re-creation of that lost vignette which will be included as an extra feature on the KING KONG DVD. It is all stop-motion and is being done by a big name in the field of animation, that is all I can say about that here. But I heard this over a year ago and "things" have a tendency to change over time. But if this rumor is true, it should be a very delectable addition to the KONG DVD (a two-disc set as I understand) even though having the genuine article restored to the release print would have been the best of all possible worlds! Well, one name is fairly big, though not as big as Harryhausen. The other is short. I heard that the sequence was being done for a documentary on O'Brien. Actually, his name does turn up in one or more of the other folders on the spider pit sequence here on CHFB.
