May 22 08 9:17 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just admired anew the beautiful prosthetics work in this film. I've seen photos where you can note changes like the deep, ugly gash & the suble skin texture of the monster's forehead, & his really nice, swept-back wig, as well as the new details on the wolf man's nose. Does anyone know who sculpted the prosthetics for this film? I know Jack Kevan & Emile Lavigne applied the makeup, but I don't believe they were sculptors. Would it have been Chris Mueller that far back?

May 29 08 12:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Dear Count, thx for digging up the info & Bob's beautiful fotos! Seeing them unpainted just reinforces my impression about how impressive these sculpts still are, esp. the Monster. That headpiece is just wonderful. The Wolf Man nose re-design is interesting in that Chris Mueller shortened it so much from the Jack Pierce original, & eliminated the dark, flattened tip. Perhaps they thought it better, in 1948, to de-exaggerate it somewhat. But what they came up with looks like little more than Lon's own schnoz with deep grooves in it. At its best -- as in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man -- I think Pierce's wolfman design wins by a nose, at the very least. P.S. Count, you're no relation to the 1950s movie star Rita Gamula, I trust?

I am certain, that, the above is an appliance, from during the transformation scene. ... LON'S nose-shape appears, to be, still, in the transitional stage. ... Mayhap, the only intermediate shape-shifting {or, one, of several}, prior, to LON'S full WOLF MAN Transformation. ... However, the final snout prosthesis is much more akin, to PIERCE'S work, if you check out the full visage, post-shape-shift. ... LON'S nose-shape appears, to be, still, in the transitional stage. I thought the same thing. I think that Lon prosthetic above is from his mid-transformation, before his nose is 100% wolfed out. The Famous LON JR, cheeks, brow, eye-bags, and nose-shape, are unmistakable proof of their authenticity! MORE! MORE! MORE! ... I also, loved CHRIS' sculpt, for KARLOFF'S MR. HYDE... while it qualifies, as being, more, a "mask", it was laden with wonderful expression and detail, and, is a neat & worthy addition, to the history & evolution, of Cinematic Foam Prosthetics. ... Every make-up artist, now living, or, deceased, within these past 20 years, owe him and LON CHANEY, SR. a deep debt of gratitude, for, their work was, daily, invention & nuance, refining & inspiration; passion and commitment, to the most exacting standards, of vision & ideal, lovingly created, with the simplest of the old school make-up accessories. ... The LON/WOLF MAN transformation, in PIERCE'S Hands, was a magnificent testament, to patience, skill, and, unbridled genius, encompassed, within the heart, of True Artistry. With admiration, for CHRIS MUELLER'S Work, it was a derivative homage, and, didn't move as well, as the originals... 'tho', doubtless, LON enjoyed the ease of application & use, far more than he did JACK'S labourious undertakings. ... A & C Make-up gave GLENN a much more massive head, which was impressively unique, and, as I mentioned, earlier, appears to be the fore-runner, to THE HERMAN MUNSTER 'Look'. ... I love the KARLOFF "HYDE" Sculpt... a very emotively plastic texture, a dissolute, beastly man, with a hint of BORIS! GREAT LOOK, I think! EXANIMO EVERNOW, TIMMY & THE BARON, B.G.G.

I think SOMEwhere around the boards Ted Newsom (or somebody) put up a few side-by-side photos of these make-ups/masks and talked about the similarities between (or perhaps the recycling of) them.
