This has its first very public screening this weekend in Cannes, so I've closed the thread in Coming Soon and discussion can begin here.
Given the intense interest, please try to keep spoilers at a minimum for awhile, and if you must clearly label them. Thanks. david 'Why did it have to be snakes?' |

I somehow have the feeling that if and when I see this, it will rank number 4 of the series.

I usually resist making negative comments that would add nothing to the conversation, but this film hold absolutely no interest to me. The trailers are almost
sad, showing and old Indiana Jones doing what he always does - run. If it works though, good for all involved. The first one was pretty awesome, and I'm
very glad to have seen it.

I'm looking forward to it, and I'm betting it will be #3 on my list of faves in the end - I thought that LAST CRUSADE puttered too much and wasn't
as much fun as the other two... and my gut tells me that CRYSTAL SKULL will be alot more like TEMPLE OF DOOM than any other one...

Let me see an Indiana aging as gracefully as he can (in the action film world based on Indy), then I will be happy. I am not expecting (or hoping for) the Indy
of RAIDERS, I just want a true Indy getting older.

I somehow have the feeling that if and when I see this, it will rank number 4 of the series. That may be, skelton, but it may well be the number one or two for this year. I'm guessing Iron Man, The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones are going to be films most of us will like for a long time to come. |

I've heard there will be a 10 minute 'bladder break' so that audience members over 60 can go relieve themselves.

My girlfriend has been talking excitedly about wanting to see this new Indy flick. So, I guess I'm goin'!

I'll be seeing it opening day, as I did for the last two Indy flicks. I'm really jazzed for this, I don't care what the critics say. Just hearing
the score and seeing Ford in the hat will be enough to put a smile on my face.

I'm with you, Larry. While this will be an easy target to knock -- an aging Harrison Ford and the almost impossible task of recapturing the joy of the
first films -- just being back in Indy's world may very well be enough for me. I'm really hoping for enough nostalgia and smiles to be satisfied. And
if it's better than that, I'll be quite happy.
But this film has a very high hurdle, that's for sure. david 'Indy! We thought you were dead!' |

Good Karma and the audiences desire for it to be good might just carry it.

For me, this film will likely come under the Bill Maher sex and pizza scale. If it's good, it's gonna be great, but even if its bad, it's still
gonna be pretty good. :-) Period high adventure, done with interesting characters and style, is such a rare creature these days that I'm bound to enjoy it.
As I mentioned in the Iron Man thread, when I saw the Indy trailer and heard the signature theme music well up I felt my pulse quicken and I broke out in a big
grin. Looking forward to this a lot!

I checked out some photos of Harrison. He doesn't look any older except for the hair color. I can't wait for INDIANA JONES AND THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH
when all shall be explained! Harrison, you're an inspiration. And may the Force be with this movie!

I never meant for my initial post to sound negative, but I've been hearing some squeaks and hollers that don't sound very positive. But I do wish the
film success if deservedly so.

I'll be happy if the new one is closer in spirit to Temple of Doom than the campy Last Crusade (forget trying to match Raiders).
The former has aged quite well I think, while the later feels like a lead balloon barely kept afloat by the chemistry between Ford and Connery. The advance
word on Crystal Skull isn't very good; the remarks are quite snarky to say the least over at AICN. Still, I'll be there opening weekend.

USA TODAY's reporter in Cannes says at the end there were no boos (which given some of the pre-spin was a fear), and in fact a round of applause. Not a
standing ovation, but critics rarely do that.

>>I'll be happy if the new one is closer in spirit to Temple of Doom than the campy Last Crusade
Funny, I've never thought LAST CRUSADE was campy. In fact, TEMPLE OF DOOM, with it's impossible mine car chase, the annoying kid and homage to the Captain Marvel serial (the water gushing through the cave), seemed far more 'campy,' for lack of a better word, to me. I kinda like LAST CRUSADE, but I'm a sucker for any movie with a dirigible in it! david |
