May 15 08 3:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Has anyone seen this seemingly long forgotten film starring Leslie Nielsen as an occult expert who is brought in by the San Francisco police department to help solve a series of bizarre murders? This is one of those films I've heard good things about and always keep an eye out for but it just never turns up anywhere. It barely qualifies as a movie with a running time of 59 minutes according to the IMDB and must have run on the bottom half of a double bill, but, still I understand it's quite well made by TV veteran Harvey Hart and its script was written by genre stalwart Barre Lyndon (Man in the Attic / The War of the Worlds / some episodes of Thriller). I sometimes have a hard time watching Nielsen in anything serious nowadays, but I continue to hope I am one day able to cross this one off my to be seen list. Wasn't this originally made for tv a la Chamber Of Horrors? "The world's going to change tonight, doctor, I'm glad you'll be able to watch it. And... happy Halloween."

Pretty nice little flick, could have made an interesting series. "The important question is not, are there aliens on other worlds? No. The important question is, do they have ray guns?"

May 15 08 4:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is one of those pilots that was ahead of it's time (at least ahead of Kolchak and Night Gallery), and created it's own mythos which was pretty interesting. In fact it was so dense it should have been expanded to 90 minutes. It plays like a THRILLER episode on speed. Leslie Nielsen's character was part undercover detective, part action hero which reminded me of James "Wild" West. a horse is corpse, of course, of corpse, a horse is a corpse, of corpse!

There USED to be a great Dark Intruder thread (started by Tom Weaver) in the Universal folder, but it appears that it disappeared back when EZ Board had that policy of deleting old threads past the 20-page mark. That's how I learned about Dark Intruder and wound up buying a DVD-r copy from Creepy Classics. Anyway, as others have stated, Dark Intruder was an unsold TV pilot. It would have been a GREAT Kolchak-esque series! I love the fog-shrouded sets, the dwarf buddy of Nielson's character, Leslie himself, and of course, the MONSTER: I highly recommend picking up a copy if you can. It got my attention then, and years later I caught up with it again finally on a tape from Creepy Classics. Atmospheric, mysterious with a touch of Lovecraft, and a likeable Leslie Nielsen gives the hero a sense of humor. DARK INTRUDER deserves more exposure, and an official DVD treatment (from MCA Universal?) would be great.

I remember Bill Obagy (whatever happened to him?) writing in Famous Monsters that after the pilot was rejected by the networks, MCA tried to get it aired on the "Alfred Hitchcock Hour" and that didn't happen either.

That's all I can think of, other than the possibility that it's simply one of the titles that's simply fallen through the cracks (along with SPIDER WOMAN STRIKES BACK, THING THAT COULDN'T DIE, some of their Paramount horrors, etc.).
