She was selling her late son's monster magazines. He had recently passed away of a heart attack at the age of 57 and he was never married and still lived at home. Well anyway, she was selling these magazines at 50 Cents a piece and they were in pretty good condition and were in protective plastic bags. I bought the almost complete FAMOUS MONSTERS #7 through #189, THE MONSTER TIMES #2 through #10, CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN #2 through #6 and the WARREN version of HOUSE OF HORRORS. I am still in disbelief. She also told me that there is more Monster related stuff in her basement (where her son lived) and if I was interested she would show me. I have a appointment with her this Monday. Wish Me Luck!!!

Famous Monsters is indeed a time machine -- I have no idea how I managed to reply to pinkfloyd before he even posted his last message (see above)!!

While there is alot to write about Ronald's collection, I really wanted to also tell a bit about Ronald's life that his mother told me. I also had a few coworkers wh tell me that I should sell the magazines on ebay, but I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST IN PROFITING FROM RONALD'S COLLECTION. What I like to do is to eventually donate it all (plus my own collection) to a local college/university.

You might also want to donate a few items to the Bob Wilkins Alzheimer's Fund so they may auction them off to raise money for Mr. Wilkins' care -- I'm sure that Ronald must have watched "Creature Features" and would want to help out his old Horror Host in a time of need, no? If you're interested, you can contact Tom Wrysch at tpw1705@aol.com
Actually Ronald was born and raised in the Philadelphia, PA area. He moved (with his mother) to California in 1989, so I am guessing he had not heard of Wilkins though Edna tells me that he grew up watching SHOCK THEATRE back in the 1950's. I myself have donated to the Wilkins fund though to Sally Wilkins. Edna, however likes my idea about donating it to a college so others can enjoy it. I have pursuaded her not to dump any of the other stuff. I am renting a CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE UNIT to move the rest of the stuff there. One thing I am amazed at is the way he protected his collection. His movie posters were in picture frames and while he did build up his monster models, he protected the original boxes by wrapping them up in Saran Wrap. One interesting thing though, his collection was mostly the Classic Monsters There was no FANGORIAS in his collection. Another puzzling thing to his mother, he grew up with the original EC Comics and had several Originals but she (and I) could not find them anywhere. All we could find were 1970's Horror Comics plus the WARREN Magazines of CREEPY and EERIE.

Edna tells me that there was only one other person who bought a few of the monster magazines though she can't recall what else has sold. The garage show had started at 8:AM, my sister was there around 8:45 and I didn't get there until 9:20.
