She was selling her late son's monster magazines. He had recently passed away of a heart attack at the age of 57 and he was never married and still lived at home. Well anyway, she was selling these magazines at 50 Cents a piece and they were in pretty good condition and were in protective plastic bags. I bought the almost complete FAMOUS MONSTERS #7 through #189, THE MONSTER TIMES #2 through #10, CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN #2 through #6 and the WARREN version of HOUSE OF HORRORS. I am still in disbelief. She also told me that there is more Monster related stuff in her basement (where her son lived) and if I was interested she would show me. I have a appointment with her this Monday. Wish Me Luck!!!

At this late date, it is an amazing find. She could have just as easily dumped them all in the trash.

Wow. Those are the sort of finds that we all dream about, huh?
Good for you! Seriously, I'm so glad that someone who would really appreciate the magazines got hold of them rather than some dealer just lookig to turn a quick buck, you know? Not that dealers don't deserve to make a living, but I'm sure that the gentleman who had spent so much of his time lovingly collecting them would've approved of where they wound up after his untimely passing.

Reading so many REAL horror stories of actual occurrences like that happening make me recall my own late mother with such great, great fondness. Because, you see, while so many other moms just didn't "get" their son's ( & daughter's too, I'm sure ) obsessions with all those old late night movies & the magazines that their kids brought home from the local drugstores sporting the most gruesome covers, mine was the one who introduced me to all those Fright Night Late Shows. And took me to the drugstore to buy me all my monster mags & comic books.
And toss them out?!!
She'd have never dreamed of it. Back then, when I was but a wee lad & my wee bit of anal retentive, OCD cleanliness issues had yet to surface, she was the one who picked up after me & cleaned my room taking care to save my goodies from ruin.
