Apr 27 08 3:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This title that features Bela Lugosi doesn't seem to be as "available" as other PD titles. Which version on DVD has the best quality transfer? Brentwood (BCI Navarre) is horrible and and I have a passable but worn and still full of compression artifacting (especially during movement) Miracle Pictures DVD version that at one time was supposed the best available? I know more sets have come out but don't know their quality... please post.

Apr 29 08 9:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I grabbed up that Passport Bela Lugosi set of 15 films (for about as many dollars) on five DVDs. Quality of the titles varies wildly, but there were some decent ones in there and it does give you the lion's share of Lugosi's poverty row stuff. That was the best version of DEATH KISS I'd seen so far, but keep in mind I'd only seen it prior to that on some really crappy EP mode VHS releases. (Doesn't Alpha also offer this?)

Apr 30 08 5:21 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The incredibly lousy print in the Mills Creek 50 Mystery set doesn't include the tinted gunshots - as a matter of fact, it's so splicey and chopped up it doesn't include a good deal of the actual movie! I really like David Manners in this film - his smart, proactive, and funny script writer character is such a relief after his milquetoast Universal horror "heroes". If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you.

Apr 5 12 8:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't recall ever seeing whole scenes colorized--just the gunshots at the very end, when the sound stage is in darkness, are yellow/red. That is all I remember, MonsterGuy. Perhaps others remember more, but I can't. It is however, quite startling after all that black and white --then the black black of the dark stage suddenly punctuated by yellow.

Which includes: WAYNE MURDER CASE, MURDER ON THE CAMPUS, THE KING MURDER, MURDER IN THE NIGHT, THE INVISIBLE KILLER, DEATH FROM A DISTANCE, THE TERROR, MURDER BY INVITATION, THE ROGUE'S TAVERN and THE DEATH KISS. And as usual, wonderfully designed disc covers. Individual discs, no 2-fers. Fun set.

The final chase has yellow flashlight beams and red bursts of gunfire. The tinting -- one print at a time -- is the work of Gustav Brock. This, from a print identified around 1975 in the warehouse of Cable Films of Kansas City, Mo. The discovery occurred just in time to fit into the original manuscript for Forgotten Horrors.

Mar 5 13 10:07 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, after having seen several versions of this on DVD now, I think Alpha may be the winner here. (Did I just say that?) It has the tinted sequence when the film being shown in the projection room catches fire, and it has the tinted gunshots and the tinted flashlights from the finale. The other copies I've seen were either B&W only, or the tint was barely noticeable on the gunshots and flashlights.
