As of last week she seemed healthy and was in great spirits and ready to come to Monster Bash. We lose another classic film star to the celluloid heavens. I had many wonderful phone conversations with this dear woman who had ties to State Colege, PA where I grew up and Vandergrift, PA where my wife grew up. (04/15/08 3:01 PM) Vazec Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	"Shock" is the word for it, all right -- she's one of the ones I assumed would be around forever. When I decided to try for an interview with her back in the '80s, I made the initial call with some trepidation, because to the best of my knowledge she'd never given a horror mag an interview, which made me think she'd give me the brush with the hard bristles. Just the opposite -- she was delighted, and gave me a fabulous interview -- even told me about her topless scene in MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (a shocker to me at the time!). Subsequently she had me over to her house when I wanted to interview her husband, actor-director Don Taylor. She was a super-sweetie pie.

She's in so many of my favorites, all the way back to GHOST SHIP and DEVIL GIRL FROM MARS, continuing with some Hammer classics, then branching out into some AIP Poe pics while still appeaing in others like DR. BLOOD'S COFFIN. What a contribution! And what very sad news. ZD

She spoke the kings english with an elegance and style that sadly is disappearing from the screen. And a stunnigly beautiful lady as well. Classically trained in the theatre she brought a depth to her roles on the screen, and she was marvellous in Dick and THe Duchess from the late 1950s. Add to this that she painted and sculpted as well. RIP Ms Court, you are one of a kind.

When I moved to California she was one of the first horror/sci-fi personalties I ever got to see in person, when she appeared at a screening of CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. When the Midnite Movie DVDs started I was always suggesting that she be interviewed for the three Poe films she appeared in, but MGM's in-house producer only cared about Corman and Matheson. Finally, for THE RAVEN, I made one more pitch: Look, this is our last chance, do a commentary with Roger Corman and Hazel Court. You know that alone Roger will run out of steam and start repeating the same old anecdotes he's told many times; having a second person there will liven it up. So the DVD producer reluctantly agreed to do it if Corman would agree. Then the higher-ups in Marketing pulled the plug on the commentary, deciding that the featurettes (which had been done a little while earlier) were enough. I got to meet her briefly at a TWILIGHT ZONE-themed convention. I had a couple of color stills from THE RAVEN printed up from the original transparencies for her to sign: one portrait of her, one shot of her with Karloff. When I presented them to her she was astonished by the quality. When I later saw her scheduled to appear at another show, I had another set printed up with the intention of giving them to her--and then she canceled and I never got the chance. She was an extraordinary creature -- not just as an actress and supremely beautiful woman, but as a sculptress and as a human being. This is definetely NO exception..a very lovely lady & talentent actress..R.I.P. She had such striking beauty, enormous talent and brought true class to everything she appeared in, with those fiery eyes and quick wit. I know she'll be remembered for a VERY long time by her fans everywhere. In my mind, she's not really gone...just pulled a fast one on us and has gone off to play with Boris Karloff once again.
