Oh, come on Terry. Everyone knows it was Bill Warren. (See? This is how rumors start!) Then that would make Tom Weaver the man with the umbrella.

At least Chuck got a tiny photo on the side of the PEOPLE cover; on EW, all he got was a tiny wording on the bottom: "Charlton Heston Tribute"...

People suddenly forgot Mitchum died. And I'll never forget, the day after Mitchum died, when I hadn't yet heard the news about Stewart, my friend Jim says to me, "Hey, you heard who died?" I said, "You mean Robert Mitchum, right?" And he says, "No. Worse! Jimmy Stewart!" That kind of pissed me off, that he said "worse". I mean, Mitchum was the first star who I actually shed a tear for. But it's probably like you said, a public persona thing. I mean, there were no two people more different than Mitch and Jimmy Stewart, to the public anyway.

In a similar vein, Princess Diana is killed, and the media coverage spirals into overdrive. A few days (or was it a day?) later, Mother Theresa died. The news hardly made a blip. Rod

Just as an update to what I wrote above here ... on the other hand, Paul Newman got a TON of coverage on his recent death (and I liked Newman too). All sorts of covers, magazine specials, etc. I can't help but believe it's due to the different public personas of both actors, and their beliefs. I just think that was unfair.
