I think Clooney has sufficiently proved his worth no matter what his "in" was. He's given strong performances, and displayed a fair amount of range...

And he's the first to tell you that he was pretty bad for some years.
Quite right. I think a little bit of common sense is in order here. By the time ER came around was Rosemary Clooney a big enough name in Hollywood that being her nephew offered a huge career advantage? Somehow I doubt it. If you would permit me to name-drop here, I remember Beverly Garland telling me that the studio talent people she was acquainted with had no idea who Clark Gable was and this was back in the 80s.

Looked like the JC at least was a post-sync job; both looked passable, for micro-budget film.

I think we need to get back to Heston and while I respect George Clooney (for his work and charitable efforts), a separate thread should be started if he's going to be discussed so much, and it's getting a little old as it is.
Indeed, to name but a very few. If you started stripping actors of their medals for blood-ties to others in the biz you'd never stop. The funny thing is that a family-line in a given business usually commands respect in many fields, few would criticize a restaurant proprietor, doctor, funeral director, carpenter... because of generational ties to their profession if they're competent.

I'm still waiting to find out whether Heston or Clooney (or Jerry Lewis) was the man on the grassy knoll.

Then that would make Tom Weaver the man with the umbrella.
