Amazing! The new Wolf Man has modern touches but is also clearly a nod to the classic as well. Many kudos to the amazing Rick Baker. I love these pictures! I hope the movie lives up the the incredible makeup job. I am generally not one for remakes but, based on what I've read about this film so far, I am really looking forward to it. The original Wolf Man is one of my favorites (if not my favorite) classic Universal film, so I really hope the new one will be great, and so far it looks like it will be! ~Penny Dreadful~

As creative as Baker's makeup is, Pierce's makeup - especially in THE WOLF MAN - allowed you to very plainly recognize Chaney as the monster.

If we didn't have every frame of these movies memorized and we were seeing them for the first time I doubt you could show any of us a photo of the 1941 Wolf Man and pick Jr. out of a lineup as the actor beneath the makeup.

In fact, Jr. was a fairly big and husky fellow. The makeup, to me, mysteriously tends to thin his face out a bit. Not at all like the makeup Pierce applied to Henry Hull in Werewolf of London.
Ditto for me. I have a 2X3 foot framed poster of one of the full-face WOLFMAN stills hanging right over my computer. I STILL have trouble picking out Chaney's features. Also, the Wolfman always seems significantly shorter and more wiry than Chaney to me. If I didn't KNOW better and you told me, "That's a stuntman. Chaney just played the Talbot role." I'd say, "Sure, I can see that."

I could no more recognize Chaney behind Pierce's magnificent work....... Than I could ever find Bela in this tour de force Janus Piccoulas concoction.

I finally realized a few years ago that Chaney is lying on his back with his head hanging off the platform he's on and the photo is flipped. It's actually gravity that's giving him that unusual expression.
