Joe Karlosi wrote: Those dumb scenes with the guy's dead decaying pal visiting him and cracking gags was the height of stupidity for a "horror movie".
The fact that he retained his sense of humor, which was a distinct part of his personality, was something that made it all the more creepy for me. It felt like his friend realized the horror of his situation, was having trouble facing it, and so was falling back to humor in order to mask his pain and tension. This is an extremely human thing to do and made it all the more effective, at least for myself.

Weeeeeell, I don't know if you'll find too many defenders for the sequel.
I'm honestly surprised there's that many horror fans, at least on this board, that didn't like American Werewolf in London (not to mention Shaun of the Dead!). I'm sorry you guys didn't enjoy it; however, it'll always hold a special place for me, at least.
If this Wolf Man remake is even half as good, I'll be happy with it.

Can't believe I'm reading this. I can understand you thinking the funny moments are not funny but for anybody to say it's not scary is just strange.
AWIL has by far the creepiest/scariest moments in any werewolf/wolfman movie.
Now, I like the original Wolf Man and the Hammer Curse of the Werewolf but though good films, neither are even remotely chilling or scary. For outright chills and scares, American Werewolf knocks spots off them.

AWIL was a Werewolf spoof, and a bloody gory one at that. There was nothing scary about it. It was just plain disgusting. I was waiting for a Wolf-Man and got a big rabid wolf/dog that you didn't even see until the very end of the picture. A RIP OFF.

AWIL has by far the creepiest/scariest moments in any werewolf/wolfman movie. Those are my feelings, too. When I first saw AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON during its original theatrical run, the girl I took to the movie begged for us to leave shortly after the attack on the moor. Reluctantly, I took her to a comedy playing in another movie-house down the highway. Obviously, I went back and saw the werewolf film by myself later that week. I thought it was a modern classic. I still do. Martin
