I've never run into that, riotengine. Are all your other PAL titles still playing fine?
I put in a PAL DVD of Tobruk right after, and it played fine. Got it from the same vendor.

Amoeba R2/PAL sale in SF store | ||
|
Amoeba SF was blowing out a bunch of R2/PAL DVDs this week. Picked up Severance, Faster Pussycat...Kill! Kill! (never seen it) and a 2-Disc set of Battle
Royale (for $5.00). The big find for me was a widescreen MGM copy of Death Rides a Horse.
The prices were dirt cheap. They did have a PAL DVD of Island of Terror for $7.99, but I was already past my spending limit.

I love that store, it's the best music store I have ever seen in the US.

I wonder if the Amoeba store down here in LA is also having an R2/PAL DVD sale.

I second Luis' mention of HUNCHBACK OF THE MORGUE. I picked it up recently, and it is such an impressively done presentation. Reminds me of those Golden
Books we used to get as kids...except with a hunchback that dismembers bodies and such...
Also, I very, very highly recommend the Mondo Macabro UK dvd of DR. JEKYLL VS THE WEREWOLF, another wonderful Naschy film directed with great style by Leon Klimovsky. A nicely done presentation. Ben |

The last time I checked, all those American-Internation Pictures DVDs called the "Arkoff Archives" were still available, including a lot of titles
not released stateside.

Riotengine-
Who was the vendor you received the DVDs from? I may be interested in placing an order myself. Feel free to PM me if you would rather not say here. Thanks, Mark |

Hey, here is a reason to go region-free. I just sold my domestic, OOP, LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD DVD, because there is a superior PAL import. It sold for $179.00
and the import is on sale for $10. Minus the $10 for the import I could have bought a decent region-free player to go with it if I didn't already have one.
Win-win.

insane, I guess some people are hard up for certain films that they are willing to pay such high prices. Most I've ever spent on a single DVD was the
previously mention Region 2 disc of Paul Naschy's HUNCHBACK OF MORGUE which cost me somewhere around $45 to $50.

The best example of "REGION -1 ONLY" insanity is the people who shell of up to $500 to get the pretty crummy Criterion R-1 of SALO, when there are at
least two better looking Euro-disks of it still in print. For $150 you can have the movie, the player, and $350 left over, that can buy ya a lot of imports.

Speaking of Universal, only ARABIAN NIGHTS of the Maria Montez-Jon Hall sixography is available in the U.S., but two others can be had overseas, including the
best one, COBRA WOMAN.
