Jan 12 08 8:20 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was busy battling cancer for 9 months, but am all better now and ready to dive into the forum once again. Jim! Welcome back. This is a bad thing. Not just the illnesses that so many are fighting right now, here on the boards, but that most of us don't know unless someone else is really tight with that poster and mentions something. I have a couple of groups in Yahoo!, and over the years there are several people that I've grown quite close to. We've set up a system whereby their significant others log on and let us know if there's trouble "at home" so that if nothing else, we can all send good thoughts along. Do you think we can do that here? I know first hand what it means to have a support group who, if nothing else, posts a stupid joke now and again to help me through stuff. And now there are months of love and affection that I have to make up for with Jim! I'm so glad you're back and that your fight was successful! At the very least, you know some of us wondered where the hell you went!

My health is pretty shaky and there may come a time when I vanish from the net for an extended period or find myself in another dimension forever. I'm going to show her the particulars about our computer and give her a list of people to email in case that happens. It certainly won't cover every board I'm on but it will be enough to get the word out. "The world's going to change tonight, doctor, I'm glad you'll be able to watch it. And... happy Halloween."

Jan 12 08 10:27 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There's a bartended named Tony at a hotel in NJ. One year at the Chiller Con, he asked me how I'd lost all the weight I'd lost. I told him I'd been ill for several months and damned near died. I didn't and the result was a spectacular new body. He asked how he';d know if anything ever happened to me, how would he know? I chuckled and asked why? He said that, well, he gave a damn. He liked me and he was very upset that I'd been ill and he'd had no idea whatsoever. It was lovely to know that he had such a big heart. It was also an eye-opener. I realized that there are many people I care about that I haven't even met and I'd miss them if they weren't around online. Lots of them. I have a couple of Yahoo groups, as I mentioned above. Most of the folks involved are writers and editors from all over the world. Some I've worked with, some I've laughed with, some I've even met and hosted when they visited LA from as far away as Australia - and all of them are folks I have come to care about. The same goes for right here at CHFB. So please, everyone, make sure someone knows how to contact the board so we all know how we all are. Okay? So. Do I sound like a mother hen? cluck cluck cluck...

This was not easy for her to do--at the time, she knew little about eMail, or about how to use my address book on AOL, but she persevered.

I would think you'd just need volunteers or what have you from your boards. Sounds stupid, I know, but I've never joined a board before. Us Brits are supposed to a bit up tight about this sort of thing, but there are some really kind, good people on here. Professor, there are a lot people here that have met each other in person, but the majority hasn't. This is a very large board and if I might add...everyone is welcome and treated with respect. Almost all of the participants are members on this board so if anything was to happen to myself or one of the others there would be no doubt that word would get out. Our Monster Kid get-togethers are a unique situation, and I'm extremely thankful for the opportunity to meet with these great people on a regular basis. Kezilla

I also used to feel like an interloper occasionally around here, back when I first posted, when I was sure everyone was calling each other about this new nebbish getting in everybody's way (you weren't... were you?). But this is the only board I visit and I was--and still am somewhat--computer-shy, plus it sometimes feels as if I'm the only one here who hasn't met anyone else in person. Well, I shook hands with Gary Svehla once and I once sat a few rows in front of Tom Weaver at Film Forum, but that's as far as it goes. So it is nice to hear that not EVERYONE here shares 'movie nights' with everyone else. And I will make sure someone knows to post here if I ever step in front of a bus or slip into a coma or get sent to the big house.

As far as I've ever been able to gather, The Catmandu is based out of Toronto or Hamilton, Ontario. Both are at least a 4 hour drive south away. I'd like to offer to go on a seek and find, but where the heck would I begin? ( If ANYONE knows of his actual wherabouts, I'll drop everything and go look for the ol catlover). I'll gather a possee. Years ago on the old AOL boards there was this woman (Oldladybones I believe was her moniker). She didn't most much, partly because she wasn't to computer savvy, and partly because we all later learned she was ill. She loved the classic horror films and was drawn to the little CHFB community because of that. After a while she stopped posting. Her daughter later posted a thank you to everyone for bringing some happiness to her final days and giving us the news that she had passed away. Funny, that was probably 10 years ago, and I still think of her now and again. I'm also in favor of Jessie being the mother hen...but who here is foxy enough to keep the other roosters out of the hen house? Cromwell
