(This is a post I put earlier on another forum, and I hope that maybe it will get some solid discussion here):
Jonny Quest's Influence on CEOTTK
Recently saw the classic Jonny Quest episode The Robot Spy, and I was interested in some of the visual similarities the cartoon had in
regards to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The episode concerns the evil Dr. Zin sending a flying UFO type ship with a spy-bot on board. At one point it
crashes in the distance and there is a glow shown down a road that looks so similar to the glow on the poster of CEOTTK that it can't just be
coincidence.
I don't have access to a screen-capture to show what I'm talking about, but is anybody here a fan of JQ who feels the same way, that maybe some of the imagry from the episode was worked in as a homage to JQ? Was Spielberg a fan?
If you go to Classic Johnny Quest HQ and such under the episode for "Robot Spy", they have the title card,w hich shows the UFO over the hill. There is a scene later on that takes place at night that is more like Close Encounters, but this is the best image I can find online.
