I believe the reason Quesada has stated is because divorce would tarnish the character and making Peter a widower would make him seem too old and therefore no easier for the kidz to relate to. Yeah, I don't think it makes sense either.
If that's what Quesada stated, then that's a lame excuse. Widowers come in all ages and so do divorcees.

The bottom line is that the the method of fixing the perceived problem was ham-fisted and inelegant. Some may applaud it, but I'm sure it will alienate far more fans.

Yep, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN was, and should have remained, the "do-over" version. Spidey freshened up, started over and made more appealing for a new readership while the old-school Spidey continued on. Now they've done the same thing with the classic title, so what's the difference? Why have both titles?

I may be wrong, but). The Civil War still happened, but he will refuse to register. Anyhow, it's a wholesale restart, although contemporary with the regular Marvel Universe. It feels fresh and almost squeaky earnest, and time will tell.
Daredevil didn't learn Spidey's id until sometime in the 80's I think. In the silver age the only thing DD was able to determine from Spidey's heartrate was he that he was a teenager.
