I've always been a bridesmaid in the Best Commentary category, and I believe Weaver still has my record beat by a Rondo. Actually, my commentaries for the first Bava Collection (BLACK SABBATH, THE GIRL WHO KNEW TOO MUCH) are also eligible this year, having come out last April. Between the two Bava sets and two stand-alone releases (ERIK THE CONQUEROR and RABID DOGS), I had seven brand new commentaries -- all about Bava films -- released this year. It's hard to say whether it would be overly advantageous or disadvantageous to nominate them separately or as a group, but I would certainly be content to be nominated for the group (under the umbrella heading of Anchor Bay's MARIO BAVA COLLECTION). It's too hard for me to try to pick out one (or even four) of the commentaries as the best of the bunch. Other outstanding audio commentaries of the year are Guillermo del Toro's for PAN'S LABYRINTH (a masterpiece of the form!), Robert Rodriguez's highly informative and listenable talk on PLANET TERROR, and Malcolm McDowell's engaging quadruple-header of IF..., A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, O LUCKY MAN! and CALIGULA (all relevant to classic fantasy or sci-fi).

For those who have not seen the new From Beyond director's cut DVD, you ought to check out the footage in this trailer for the Monsters HD broadcast. It's a tiny screen, but you get a good sense of the almost 3-dimensional quality of the vivid image: http://www.monstershd.com/content/clips/quicktime/from_beyond_premiere_525.MOV
