A very good ghost story from Spain. It is perhaps being compared too much to DEVIL'S BACKBONE and PAN'S LABYRINTH, because of the Guillermot Del Toro
connection.
The film is a nice showcase for the leading actress; there is great atmosphere, and it really builds to its shuddery effects in a way that makes them convincing - but also slows down the film a bit. The result is very good, but I'm not sure it quite reaches the level it aims for - which is, say, THE HAUNTING or THE INNOCENTS.
