I'm about to interview a guy who, at 16, was a go-fer on PARTY BEACH -- and then got promoted to playing one of the monsters. A lot of his high school friends are also in the movie. He's telling me that he remembers ev-er-y-thing, that I'll be crying "Uncle! Enough!" before he finishes telling all his stories. So I hope to finally find out about the "two types of monster suits" situation.

And he WAS at 20th Century-Fox (distributor of HORROR OF PARTY BEACH) around that time. So maybe it IS him.

In a long interview in Eisner's OFFICIAL BATMAN BATBOOK, the story Dozier tells is that they were testing various v.o. guys, and everyone in the room kept telling him his line readings were better than them all, so he took the job. He says that he took some little things AFTER that, to keep his SAG membership up, but implies he'd never done such BEFORE. Who knows...

I didn't recall that there were different monster designs and was somewhat surprised. I spotted no ref by characters in film to different-looking monsters, also no internal ref to whether or no all monsters showed up at same place so all could be sodium-bombed (thus negating all danger). But I was a little distracted during the airing. Anyone know? Also, found the women (who were not the Hollywood-pretty types of the classic West Coast beach party style) to be more attractive to me now than I bet they did then and totally more attractive than those classic beach gals seem to me now. And the whole East Coast scene was fun.

And the whole East Coast scene was fun. It's such a strange film. I would have thought that hundreds of murders in a matter of weeks would have drawn more of a police presence to the area. As a reference, the Lockerbie bombing killed (only) 259 people and led to an international investigation and the ostracism of Libya. Hundreds of beach murders here result in... a mild decrease in tourism and maybe an extra beat cop or two. People were hardcore in the 50s.

May 3 12 1:28 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Wow, I think that's a massive overreaction. Nowhere, no way does Godziwolf demean, diminish or defend the Lockerbie tragedy. He's simply trying to make a point about the movie. Is it a stretch from HORROR OF PARTY BEACH to murderous international terrorism? Oh yeah. Is it wrong? I don't think so. Maybe...just maybe... a tad misguided, or a smidge insensitive, but no more than that. And believe me, I'm as sensitive to anyone about real-life tragedy being used for entertainment purposes. I abhor the Holocaust backstory of X-MEN FIRST CLASS, and I hated the pilfered Oklahoma City imagery in THE X-FILES MOVIE. But this, I think, is nothing like that. Perhaps,if he would of just left it to the first two sentences. They seemed to encapsulate what he was trying to get across.
